Benefits – Benefits – Benefits

Having a review done by us or having an interview helps the traffic to the developers website, as was bought to our attention recently when we did an interview and reviewed a plugin for a developer who sent us snap shots of their traffic before and after the shows. The traffic stayed, so there are great benefits to being reviewed by WP Plugins A to Z. Submit Your Plugin Here.

Make sure you subscribe and review the show at:

Stitcher Radio, Google Play and in the iTunes Store.

With that lets dive right into the meat and potatoes. I have a great set of plugins for you today!

To start off I have a couple plugins that I have yet to use but thought you might want to know they exist. Keep in mind the ratings are based off the descriptions on their site and using their demo if available.

WordPress News and Info

This is a new segment I am adding to the show since I have not been able to do my Saturday show.

Restoring a WordPress website after a crash/hack or some other catastrophic event can be a challenge if you do not have a solid backup plan. It seems in the last week I have seen several articles discussing this issue and talking about what type of backup you should have.

Most people discover way too late that their hosting provider is not obligated to create and store backups of their sites, as discovered by A2 hosting customers recently, some do but many times these backups are weeks or even months old. They may also be corrupted. You need a plan in place where you are backing up your site regularly off server. Or you need a service that does it for you. You could also go with a hosting company such as JohnOverall.com which monitors and maintains your site as well as making a monthly offsite backup. While not 100% guaranteed, they are usually reliable.

This show is brought to you by:

The next plugin I have for you is:

Length Converter

Version:
Requires: or higher
Compatible up to:
Released:01 January 1970
Downloads:
Last Updated:01 January 1970
Ratings:

The Lowdown:
I was all set to give this a glowing ranking until I discovered one big flaw. While this plugin is great , simple, works, and does exactly what it is supposed to do (and that is provide a table for converting meters to feet and vise versa), I found you cannot place it on a page due to a lack of a short code.

The plugin works only in a couple page builders. Not the one I am using for the project I need it for and as a widget.

So while it is great plugin, it is not perfect. But the fork of it will soon be. I am forking this plugin to be more usable and be offered by the soon-to-be-launched Plugin Dynamics, a joint venture between Shawn DeWolfe Consulting and JohnOverall.com.

Next up I have:

Import Export WordPress Users

https://wordpress.org/plugins/users-customers-import-export-for-wp-woocommerce/

Version:2.5.4
Requires:3.0 or higher
Compatible up to:6.5
Released:22 October 2016
Downloads:2203273
Last Updated:27 March 2024
Ratings:
4.8
(4.8 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:
This is the second plugin I tested out for doing user imports and exports for the Ultimate Membership Plugin on a project I am finishing up. I found this plugin to be exactly what I needed. It not only imports very cleanly, but makes an initial export so you can have a good CSV file to work from for creating your import of all your members.

If you go with the pro version you can also import and export extra meta data of your users. I opted not to, I just used the free version as I was only working with about 50 members and minimal meta data.

The plugin worked great and performed exactly as expected. You may want to check this one out next when you need to import and export users to your site.

ClassicPress Options

Since the release of Gutenberg, and it fallout ClassicPress has garnered allot of attention. This is a fork of WordPress and is focused on Business Websites and is looking pretty good. It does seem in the past few months ClassicPress is coming into its own a bit and with some plugins now being created specifically for ClassicPress I do believe it has a future.

One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. Currently there are not a lot of ClassicPress specific plugin but I do know it is going to grow and I’ll have to expand this segment then. Who knows it could take over the whole show.

This week’s ClassicPress plugin is:

Username Protection from CodePotent

https://github.com/johnalarcon/username-protection

The Lowdown:
Username Protection is a plugin that removes anonymous access to usernames in ClassicPress to help mitigate brute-force attacks. For visitors who are not logged in, usernames are removed from the REST API, feeds, author pages, and prevented from exposure through other common vectors of discovery.

And more, this is a community that is growing and many talented people are migrating over to it as it looks to be treating people better.

An older article, but something to think about:
Rebel, Right Now – A Few Thoughts for WordPress Theme and Plugin developers

Side notes:

The ClassicPress editor for WordPress is being used over 4 million times and will lose support in 2022, only 3 years away. If you are one of them you might want to start a plan for moving to ClassicPress CMS. More about it at https://www.classicpress.net/

To find a listing of ClassicPress specific plugins check out this link https://forums.classicpress.net/t/plugins-built-specifically-for-classicpress/1011?u=codepotent there is currently 37 plugins here and growing I look forward to the day they have their own repository. I can still recall WP when is had a small repository.

Closing out this Episode the Plugins I covered were:

John’s Plugins: Infinity Snyc – 3, , Length Converter – 4, Import Export WordPress Users – 4, Username Protection – 4
