Benefits – Benefits – Benefits

Having a review done by us or having an interview helps the traffic to the developers website, as was bought to our attention recently when we did an interview and reviewed a plugin for a developer who sent us snap shots of their traffic before and after the shows. The traffic stayed, so there are great benefits to being reviewed by WP Plugins A to Z. Submit Your Plugin Here.

With great appreciation for the No Agenda Show for their inspiration of ideas and the occasional stolen sound clip.

This is a value for value show and I look forward to everyone providing some value back.

Before I get started, you will want to hang around to the end of the show for our Q & A segment with Amber…. and to those listening on the podcast, you may want to check out the YouTube version which has some great discussions before the show starts…

Ambers’ Rant:

This is #33 of 52 episodes for 2021!! 33!! it’s the magic NUMberrrr!!! I hope that everyone out there managed to get that sunshine while it was still going strong!! It seems – at least here on the island anyways – that fall is making itself known now, with cooler weather and cloudy days.

Clouds… but no rain yet… it’s a little odd…

If you didn’t get the last of the sunshine, no worries! It will be back probably at least one more time before the rains and snows come. Remember also to keep up that hour a day thing I keep yammering on about! A good book, a nice drink – boos or not, whichever you prefer – and NO media!! I know I always feel a lot better after unplugging for a bit.

Rinse and repeat as often as needed.

We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.

News this week:

Sent in by a listener

Intel just signed a major chip-making deal with the Pentagon, and it could help the US solve its semiconductor problem

Trend Micro’s Linux Threat Report identifies the most vulnerable distributions and biggest security headaches

He predicted the dark side of the Internet 30 years ago. Why did no one listen?

Great News!! WordPress Classic Editor has been extended for AT LEAST another year! – This is certainly good news for those of us who prefer to use this.

Google Search Completes Rollout of Link Spam Update – Basically, Google spent about a month creating more effective ways to identify and nullify ‘spammy links’ – good news, but hopefully it is only being used for the no good sites… I’m always suspicious of large companies…

Sky Broadband in the UK went down yesterday – And they are still having issues today. Always good to keep an eye on things when internets anywhere go down in my opinion.

The extras for even more extra news, check out our Facebook, or Twitter page!

This is the extra news stuff that someone out there might find interesting. To read more, you can head on over to the show notes or newsletter and check it out! If you find something to add for next show, send me a link at

Free Tickets to WordCamp US Online 2021! – Always good to know that you can get free tickets when its something you are interested in! Check out the article for more info!

Entertaining article on ‘the horrors of today’s sites’ – TNW has some awesome things on their site, and really – pop-ups are never enjoyable as a consumer… Especially as many as are used today….

Google Patches Actively-Exploited Zero-Day Bug in Chrome Browser – The memory-corruption vulnerability exists in the browser’s FreeType font rendering Library. Check out the article for more details!

MineCraft Mods Attack More Than 1-Million Android Devices – This is a good thing to know about if you or your kids love this game. I know my youngest does – definitely something to keep an eye out for. Check out the article for more!

ClassicPress Options

ClassicPress is growing really well, but I just don’t have the time to add reviews on ClassicPress myself. I am always open to reviews sent in by listeners; though unless there is a review sent into me on ClassicPress, I am not going to do more than mention that ClassicPress is a thing, and here are some resources. I hope some listeners out there find this information useful!

One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. There are a few plugins specifically for ClassicPress and all plugins for WordPress 4.9.9 work well on it. I do believe it has a future, I just have not time to help them in getting it out there.

ClassicPress News:

The article mentioned on the show two weeks ago.

A post from a new ClassicPress user who migrated fro WordPress 5.7 to 5.8 and then to ClassicPress

A users personal experience of going through the migration, an interesting read.

The First Release Candidate for ClassicPress 1.3.0 is available!

For more information about what’s included, and how to help, checkout…/classicpress-1-3…/3356

Happy Testing!

John’s Plugin

All Currencies for WooCommerce

Requires:4.4 or higher
Compatible up to:6.2.6
Released:08 April 2013
Last Updated:15 July 2023
(3.8 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

This is a really good idea – so far I have really only seen a specific allotment of currencies that are offered at any given time to be translated – this one though, they have A LOT of countries!!

There are also CryptoCurrencies that are in this plugin – it’s a great and easy to use plugin, definitely worth going to check out.

Amber’s Plugin

Bitcoin/Lightning Payment Gateway – LNBits

Requires:5.1 or higher
Compatible up to:5.8.10
Released:14 August 2021
Last Updated:28 August 2022
(5 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

Accept Bit Coin as payment through WooCommerce!!!

This is a pretty nifty plugin, though I can’t say for sure how well this works as I don’t have any bitcoin to test this fully.

I know it was easy to activate, and I didn’t have to go and get an API in order to make it work, so it is worth a go if you find yourself in need of accepting BitCoin for payment!!

John’s Plugin

Admin Allow by IP

Requires:5.0 or higher
Compatible up to:6.3.5
Released:20 August 2021
Last Updated:19 October 2023
(0 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

So, odd thing about this one – it’s called Admin Allow by IP, but you need to look for ‘Admin Block’ under settings. That was a little confusing for me….

Really easy to use though, simply check off ‘Enable Development’, and whichever IP’s are added will be hidden. You can add as many as you want, just put a comma between them.

Amber’s Plugin

World Travel Information

This plugin has been closed as of September 23, 2021 and is not available for download. Reason: Security Issue.

The Lowdown:

If you find you, or your customers/viewers, have any need what so ever for travelling information and what is needed in order to travel, then this plugin is perfect!

Really easy to use, just activate it – be sure to look for ‘travel info’ on the right, the name is a little different. Then once there, look up whichever country it is that you are wanting the information for, copy the short code, and paste it onto whichever page you want!! They provide everything, just copy and paste! And the information it presents DOES seem to be within the last 24 hours at least.

John’s Plugin

No Active for GravityForms

Requires:4.9 or higher
Compatible up to:5.8.10
Released:25 August 2021
Last Updated:26 August 2021
(0 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

This is a pretty cool plugin! Instead of having your no longer active form with Gravity Forms just throw out an empty page, you can activate this and instead have the non active form throw up a message stating that it’s just not active.

Really simple and easy to use, totally free, and although when you first deactivate the form you figure people will just be able to tell – you would be surprised how many times even the creator forgets that the form was deactivated, and confusion avails!

Amber’s Plugin

OWM Weather

Requires: or higher
Compatible up to:
Released:01 January 1970
Last Updated:01 January 1970
(0 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

This plugin is meant to be either a dashboard widget, or a shortcode on your page – or both! – that tells you the weather for your area.

However, unless you sign into the Open Weather Map Website and get yourself an account and an API address, you will have call limits, and the plugin is REALLY eager in telling you that you need to go and get your API key.

Honestly, I didn’t get further than setting it up for local weather on my dashboard, and I found that although it works – that constant reminder is REALLY irritating!

So yes, it works as it should, and although they have no ads and are totally free, they have really eager reminders that just don’t want to leave you alone.
