Benefits – Benefits – Benefits
Having a review done by us or having an interview helps the traffic to the developers website, as was bought to our attention recently when we did an interview and reviewed a plugin for a developer who sent us snap shots of their traffic before and after the shows. The traffic stayed, so there are great benefits to being reviewed by WP Plugins A to Z. Submit Your Plugin Here.
John’s Intro:
Moving into a new Era.
With great appreciation for the No Agenda Show for their inspiration of ideas and the occasional stolen sound clip.
This is a value for value show and I look forward to everyone providing some value back.
Before I get started, you will want to hang around to the end of the show for our Q & A segment with Amber…. and to those listening on the podcast, you may want to check out the YouTube version which has some great discussions before the show starts…

Ambers’ Rant:
This is #34 of 52 episodes for 2021! Here on the Island the rain has finally made an appearance – and of course, I was sleeping in a tent I created out of a nice tarp – and woke up with rivulets of water running onto my face at 4 am. Managed to fix the tent so that didn’t happen anymore – turns out, that design they have for tents where there is an inside and an outside tarp? Yea… that’s for a reason. And now I know this…
So now that the rain is here, be sure to get yourself out on the nicer days inbetween the icky days at the very least!! If you find that you can’t, or that there are too many icky days – maybe pick up baking and cooking! Start setting yourself up with snacks for the long winter ahead by making things that will last. Snacks are ALWAYS awesome on winter days!
And while you are doing that, turn on commercial free music, dance to the super silly songs with kids if they are around, and just have fun! If you spend about an hour a day having super silly fun, even during the darkest of the rainy days, I’ll bet you a beer that you will find it helps with your general outlook.
Rinse and repeat as often as needed.
We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.
News this week:
Article on what the perfect ransomware victim is – Very good article, mostly going through the steps that ransomware operators take in real depth, helping one to understand what it is they are doing to get their victims.
Auttomattic acquires Social Image Generator – and they plan on integrating it with JetPack. I’m not sure that will work too well or go over well with the people who currently use this plugin, but I suppose we shall see what happens.
A good article explaining the importance of Original Content for SEO – SEO is something I have only just grazed in learning, and I found this helpful in understanding why the SEO plugins always do that yelly red letter thing at me when I try and fill it out….
Gutenberg 11.4 add to galleries – Axial padding for buttons, and they are laying the groundwork for global spacing! Very exciting stuff for those who use Gutenberg!
Block development – merely a Templating system with No Build processing? – An article on the possibility of living in a world where we could create PHP-based templates that would output data on the front end and handle editable fields via the block editor. Very interesting read!
Automattic acquires Frontity – And the founders of Frontity are to be working on Gutenberg full time! I’m not sure what this will mean for their open source framework… they won’t be keeping the opensource framework maintained anymore, not sure if someone else will be picking it up as these two guys head off to work on Gutenberg.
Last major WordPress release is coming! – WordPress 5.9 is coming out, and it seems that the main goal for the end of 2021 is: “The main goal for 2021 is getting full site editing to all WordPress users,”; or so says Haden Chomphosy. I’m not so sure… but again, we shall see!
The extras – for even more extra news, check out our Facebook, or Twitter page!
This is the extra news stuff that someone out there might find interesting. To read more, you can head on over to the show notes or newsletter and check it out! If you find something to add for next show, send me a link at amber@wppro.ca
Sent in by listener Stanislav Ustimenko – CodeLobster is a really useful FREE Cross-Platform IDE. I checked this out, and I can see how it would be very useful for coders, or those learning to differentiate codes in work. You pop in the code you are working for, and it will highlight the code for you – you can put in more than one code. They have plugins for a LOT, including Drupal CMS, Laravel, CakePHP, and many more! Worth checking out if you think this could be useful!
LinkedIn removing stories on September 30 – say what??? No, they aren’t removing ‘all the stories ever posted on the site’ – they are removing the Category Stories. Unfortunately, this also means that anyone who has made the effort to create a story video to showcase their professional selves will also be removed – so if this is something you did, I would go snag that before it vanishes forever.
Google still using Original Page Title for Search Rankings – for those of you worried about the recent page title update changing the way Google ranks you – it didn’t. If your title targets an important keyword, and that keyword isn’t available in Google’s replacement, Google’s search ranking algo’s will still be using the original title.
Tips Tuesday with MayAnna! – Yup! I am promoting MayAnna weekly. She is REALLY good at what she does, and I hope that she is able to help you out as much as she has been able to help me out.
Best cross-platform tools of 2021 – at least according to ZD Net. I thought perhaps this could be useful to point those who are looking in the right direction.
Totally random fun thing: ???? ???? G???????? (Tiny Text Generator) – 3 different alphabets that aren’t ‘official’ unicode had to be squashed together in order to create this – and ??’? ?? ???? ???????????!!!!

ClassicPress Options
ClassicPress is growing really well, but I just don’t have the time to add reviews on ClassicPress myself. I am always open to reviews sent in by listeners; though unless there is a review sent into me on ClassicPress, I am not going to do more than mention that ClassicPress is a thing, and here are some resources. I hope some listeners out there find this information useful!
One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. There are a few plugins specifically for ClassicPress and all plugins for WordPress 4.9.9 work well on it. I do believe it has a future, I just have not time to help them in getting it out there.
ClassicPress News:

John’s Plugin
Error Log Viewer by BestWebSoft
https://wordpress.org/plugins/error-log-viewer/
The Lowdown:
If you’re doing some diagnostics for an issue and you need the php error log, well, sometimes it can be hard to locate. This plugins solves that for you it helps you find and view the logs. It will even help you insert the correct code into your config or htaccess file to create logs for you.
You get a great view of the log and can even clear them if it has real old errors.
This is a great tool.

Amber’s Plugin
Platys Twitch List
https://wordpress.org/plugins/platys-twitch-list/
The Lowdown:
Honestly, it was the name; and the logo. That’s why I checked this out.
For this plugin, it is supposed to bring in your Twitch Channels in a configurable list to your site – though you need to first enter your key. Which you can get from… their site… when they finish their Platys Scripts… you also need to have Patreon in order to sign in.
It seems like a very useful plugin if you use Twitch, and need your channels on your site! May want to wait until they have finished their Platys Scripts though…
Perhaps waiting until they were done on their site before releasing the plugin may have been a better idea..?
Due to my inability to really check these guys out, it’s a fairly middle of the road rating. I will check them out again in a while!

WPPM Classic Widgets
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wppm-classic-widgets/
PLUGIN HAS SINCE BEEN REMOVED – WORDPRESS NOTICE STATES:
This plugin has been closed as of August 8, 2022 and is not available for download. Reason: Guideline Violation.
The Lowdown:
This is another plugin to restore older functionality of WordPress. If you prefer the way your widgets looked before WP 5.8 then you can install this and have that look back.

Amber’s Plugin
Lipsum Dynamo
https://wordpress.org/plugins/lipsum-dynamo/
The Lowdown:
You’ll find this plugin showing up under ‘Tools’ on the right hand side. It’s designed to create your own Ipsum specifically to fill out a site with dummy gibberish for you in order to more easily present a site.
I like the settings – you can choose how many posts, pages, media, landing pages, my templates, sticky notes or posts.
You are able to set the author to any of your users as well! And, you get to choose whether these new items will be published, pending, drafts, or private. You can also add thumbnails!
You can create each one individually if you feel like it as well, so that you can make it a total variety of things for your client.
Total bonus – you have the option of setting it so that once the plugin is deleted, it takes everything with it from the site.
VERY useful!!

John’s Plugin
Coupon Restriction For Backorders on WooCommerce
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wc-coupon-restriction-for-backorder/
The Lowdown:
This is a plugin that will prevent the use of coupons when the products are back-ordered. If someone is making an order and trying to order a back-ordered product the coupon will not work.

Amber’s Plugin
Submit Content
https://wordpress.org/plugins/submit-content/
The Lowdown:
I thought this could be REALLY useful! I know that some sites (like ours) still offer the opportunity to be a guest writer, and this is a plugin to make it possible for the people who want to be a guest writer to enter in the post from the front end! And, you can make it so that it is not just a post, but will save as a e-landing page, elementor_library, dsn, or wpr_template.
I like the options it has, there are many. One of the cool things that really caught me was that you can have auto save as either published, or as a draft! this also offers you the ability to choose whether or not a person has to be logged in to use this form, and how many words the title can be, the post can be, how big the picture…. there are many awesome options.
One odd thing though – it offers you a place to put the title and content yourself – I had initially thought that this was for that gray writing that is a placeholder to suggest to people where to write things – turns out, it’s an actual title and post area that sits above the entry form.
Other than that oddity though, it’s pretty nifty! I think it could be very useful, and highly recommend people checking this out.
