Benefits – Benefits – Benefits
Having a review done by us or having an interview helps the traffic to the developers website, as was bought to our attention recently when we did an interview and reviewed a plugin for a developer who sent us snap shots of their traffic before and after the shows. The traffic stayed, so there are great benefits to being reviewed by WP Plugins A to Z. Submit Your Plugin Here.

John’s Intro:
66 weeks and the count continues, trust the plan, life is what it is and the show continues.
With great appreciation for the No Agenda Show for their inspiration of ideas and the occasional stolen sound clip.
This is a value for value show and I look forward to everyone providing some value back.
Before I get started, you will want to hang around to the end of the show for our Q & A segment with Amber…. and to those listening on the podcast, you may want to check out the YouTube version which has some great discussions before the show starts…

Ambers’ Rant:
This is #25 of 52 episodes for 2021. (Palindrome episode!) Its Episode 517! Summer – we wish for it, look forward to it, and than it appears with a boxing glove in our face. While I am SO happy to be warm and have longer days, this random heat is a bit of a killer, is it not? A couple weeks ago, we were hanging out around 15, now we are up between 27 and 32…. A little rougher than I usually like from Mother Nature…
So, if you do manage to get outside, remember to bring water. Or, make some lemonade – rather important to get the salt and sugar alongside the water into you while it’s hot out. And take lots of breaks in the shade! If you DON’T manage to get outside, open a window to get some fresh air at least. Sitting in recycled air isn’t the best for you all the time, even if it’s colder than outside.
Also remember, turn off the media! Have a nap, read a book, enjoy the lazy summer as much as you can! And media/radio/tv will just kill that enjoyment.
Rinse and repeat as often as needed.
We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.
News this week:

Have we reached the peak for ransomware? – An article on why we may have reached the peak, and might start seeing less ransomware on the net in the future.
This is the extra news stuff that someone out there might find interesting. To read more, you can head on over to the show notes or newsletter and check it out! If you find something to add for next show, send me a link at amber@wppro.ca

ClassicPress Options
ClassicPress is growing really well, but I just don’t have the time to add reviews on ClassicPress myself. I am always open to reviews sent in by listeners; though unless there is a review sent into me on ClassicPress, I am not going to do more than mention that ClassicPress is a thing, and here are some resources. I hope some listeners out there find this information useful!
One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. There are a few plugins specifically for ClassicPress and all plugins for WordPress 4.9.9 work well on it. I do believe it has a future, I just have not time to help them in getting it out there.
ClassicPress Resources:
For some up to date news on ClassicPress check out the ClassicPress Blog.
“Must Have” Plugins List
https://forums.classicpress.net/t/must-have-plugins-list/1163
It seems ClassicPress now has it own repository you can check it here https://directory.classicpress.net/plugins they now have 72 plugins available.

John’s Plugin
Mailroad Switch
https://wordpress.org/plugins/mailroad-switch/
The Lowdown:
This is looking to be a very useful plugin if you have hit the point on your site where the email being sent to the Admin needs to be redirected somewhere else. You can enter a specific email address for the following errors.
Auto Update, Site errors, New users, and Jquesry Migrate.
This could help clean up your in box a little bit.

Amber’s Plugin
RadioPlayer – Live Shoutcase, Icecase and Audio Stream Player for WordPress
https://wordpress.org/plugins/radio-player/
The Lowdown:
Long name, but pretty awesome plugin.
This gives you a sticky player for your page or pages that can be a pop up, full width, or there can be various on a single page.
You can play MP3, M3U8, do a Stream – there are many options as well for how you can make it look. Size, colour, where it shows, etc.
This uses a shortcode, or you can use an Elementor widget, a Gutenberg widget, or a sidebar widget.
This is certainly something you will want to look into if doing streams and MP3’s is something you do often.
I really like their ‘get started’ thing they have when you download the plugin; makes using this very easy indeed!
Totally recommend checking this out, they are still new so there are bound to be a few issues, though I didn’t find any in my perusal. Also, totally free!

John’s plugin
Localhost to IP
https://wordpress.org/plugins/localhost-to-ip/
The lowdown:
This is a useful plugin if you’re doing local development and you need to share the site out. It lets you change the URL info of your site from localhost to an IP that can be accessed. The one caveat I would think here is, if your router will allow that to happen.

Amber’s plugin
NutsForPress Restricted Contents
https://wordpress.org/plugins/nutsforpress-restricted-contents/
The Lowdown:
Interesting plugin, what they do is make it so that the option to restrict a page appears on the right hand side of the editing area. It shows up as an option to the right just above the ‘publish/update’ option. I found it a little confusing at first, as the content restriction plugins I have tried in the past gave me the option to restrict pages in the settings of the plugin itself.
All in all, I think I prefer the option to choose restriction status in the same area you are editing the page/post in!
In the settings area, you can choose which ‘courteous page’ link to send non-logged in users to, and then copy & paste the chosen link into the option area in the editing page.
If you are looking for an easy to use content restriction plugin, look no further!

John’s plugin
Social Media Publish
https://wordpress.org/plugins/social-media-publish/
The Lowdown:
This is a plugin to help you share your content across social platforms. It will auto publish to Facebook and instagram and you can also do a manual push at any time. You will have to setup your Client ID stuff to get it to work but this could help in your promotions.

Amber’s plugin
Retro Color Scheme
https://wordpress.org/plugins/retro-color-scheme/
The Lowdown:
Want to pull a silly prank on someone? Download and activate this plugin, then go to their profile and select ‘retro color scheme’.
The colour’s are terrible together! It’s awesome! I don’t think I could actually get any work done with these colours, but they are a lot of fun to look at for a bit!
I’m sure some people prefer these kinds of colours together, but for me it’s just too much.
Really though, simple yet easy to use plugin, great for pranks for preference.

****Q & A Time with Amber ——– Catch this info on our YouTube Channel*****
*** Note: if you have questions you would like asked, send them to Amber at WPPro.ca she will get them into this segment. ****
- When working on a new client’s site, one of the things done is looking over the plugins.
- What are you looking for when looking at whether or not your clients plugins need replacing?
- How do you know whether or not the plugins are still working? Do you need to test them beforehand?
- How do you know that the plugins you are thinking of replacing work better than the ones already there?
- When looking over a site to see what needs doing, what are the first things you look at? What grabs your attention the most?
- have you ever come across a site that cannot be fixed?
- If so, what was wrong with it that it couldn’t be fixed?
- If not, what would have to be wrong with a site where it would be at the point of no return and you wouldn’t be able to fix it?
