[bctt tweet=”Episode #307 Creating Catalogs, Live Group Chat #podcast #wordpress” username=”wppluginsatoz”]
It’s Episode 307 and we’ve got plugins for Creating Catalogs, Live Group Chat, Grabbing Youtube Subtitles, Google Customer Reviews and Custom User Profiles. It’s all coming up on WordPress Plugins A-Z!
Having a review by us or having an interview helps the traffic to the developers website. As was bought to our attention recently when we did an interview and reviewed a plugin for a developer who sent us snap shots of their traffic before and after the shows and the traffic stayed so there is some great benefits to being reviewed by WP Plugins A to Z.
Thank Our Donors
We would like to thank our donors to the show, everyone who donates $50 or more will be acknowledged here with a mention and a link back to their page and all those below will be anonymous
$50 Jezweb Pty Ltd.
Looking forward to seeing what the improvements to tinymce that are part of the next WordPress release are. I installed the beta but can’t really figure out from looking at it what has changed. This donation is on behalf of Blue Sky Mediation, https://www.blueskymediation.com.au/ who are in Newcastle Australia. I made a simple site on https://www.jeremydawes.com/ over the weekend to see how intuitive (or not), the twenty seventeen theme for WordPress was and to have a relaxing small project to complete in a couple of hours. It’s quite nice seeing the technical overlap of the customizer with the page elements and it hints at where the future of WordPress themes and page layouts might end up.
Thanks to all donors who came in under $50
You can now donate though Patreon at https://patreon.com/wppluginsatoz where you can donate on a monthly basis. As an incentive if you donate $40 a month you will gain access to the exclusive plugin tutorial videos on how to setup and use the plugins we review and use.

Why I Yanked W3 Total Cache Off My Recommended Plugins List
That’s it. I’ve had it with the W3TC plugin. See why I won’t use it again and advise you don’t either.
No free caching plugin holds a candle to the configuration options in W3TC.
Those options helped high traffic sites tweak caching performance to perfection.
In fact, high traffic sites without those options actually incur more caching and server load and perform worse than if they had no caching plugin at all.
9 Reasons Why WordPress Freelancers Need a Daily Schedule (and How to Make One)
Life as a WordPress freelancer is pretty awesome. You work with (what we all know to be) the best content management system. You set your own prices. You pick the clients you want to work with. And you get to flex your creative muscles all day. What’s not to love?
I think that if there is the one major drawback to working as a freelancer (WordPress or otherwise), it would be the temptation factor. The temptation to turn on your TV for 15 minutes while you eat a warmed-up burrito. That temptation to nap with your dog after a particularly difficult assignment. That temptation to stay in your jammies all day because they’re just so dang comfortable. Read original article here…. premium.wpmudev.org
22 Abandoned WordPress Plugins with Vulnerabilities
22 Abandoned WordPress Plugins with Vulnerabilities
As an interesting research project, Pan Vagenas, one of our researchers, took a closer look at abandoned plugins in the WordPress repository. His work was inspired by a recent post by Isabel Castillo where she lists the oldest abandoned plugins in the WordPress plugin repository.
An abandoned plugin is one that has not been updated for several years. According to Isabel’s post there are several plugins that have a large install base that haven’t been updated for some time: Read original article here…. wordfence.com
This plugin was suggested by my client as the product catalogue in an upcoming project. While it is a very pretty catalogue it lack a few of the essentials that they need for the project. It looks good has some pretty good features but is missing the ability for the custom fields, no CSV import so if you already have items to go in it you have to manually enter them. All in all it is a pretty good basic catalogue plugin
While doing some research on catalogue plugins which are a bit different than the Woocommerce ecommerce plugins, I ran across this plugin and remembered that it had been submitted to us only a couple weeks ago. Since she had submitted a premium version for testing I loaded this plugin up on my sandbox site to see if it would fit the bill of what I needed for the project ahead. Some of the criteria needed was the ability for customizing the layout without allot of fuss, importing a csv file of hundreds of items, easy use and understanding. A need for custom fields and more.
Well this plugin delivers very nicely with most features available from the free version including the CSV import, the premium features help make the layout job easier. The custom fields are in the premium version and work very well All in all a great plugin
what they say:
Plugin Description
Our responsive product catalog plugin is designed to display your products in a sleek and easy to customize format. Choose between three default responsive layouts or use the Custom CSS features or any of the hundreds of product catalog styling options. Make your product catalog easy to browse, sort and update with categories, sub-categories, tags and custom fields.
The premium version of our product catalog now offers full WooCommerce integration, allowing you to sync all your products between the product catalog and WooCommerce, and also allowing your customers to check out directly from the product catalog.
This plugin is used to let you grab the subtitles content of a Youtube video and place it in your website. One great use for this would be if you curate YouTube videos on your site you can then bring in the subtitle info to enhance your curation.
Sometimes you want to have a full chat room going where a group of registered users can chat. This chat is very fast and simple. It uses ajax messages and operates just like your standard group chat does. You can restrict it to have only WordPress site registered users within the chat. It uses an internal database to save the chats, which get automatically deleted after a week. It’s very easy to configure and uses either a widget or shortcode for display.
This is THE WordPress plugin to integrate Google Merchant Center’s “Google Customer Reviews” into your WooCommerce store. It allows the Survey Opt-in code onto your Thank You (Order Received) page with the option to pick which location the popup will appear. It also integrates the Google Customer Reviews Badge onto your site. You can choose to show it in the bottom left or bottom right. You can also choose to only show the badge when users are in the WooCommerce area of your website. One stickler, to enable the functionality of this plugin, you need to paste your Google Merchant ID in the plugin settings page.
With the WP Profile Builder plugin you can create users profile template., altering how the typical user page displays. It lets you create custom user fields. It also provide you users list page, real time search users, individual user profile and many more.
