Raffi has a question on how to hide menus and sidebar widgets..
Try dynamic widgets to hide specific widgets.. as for menus one option would be to create templates for those pages.

I was in need of some functionality to showcase the most popular posts based on views.. This is a simple enough plugins and once installed simply add the widget and then choose number of posts to display the post type, you can choose posts, pages and even custom post types.. Nice touch and then choose the timeline all time, monthly weekly and daily no year though strange I think. Seems to work very well and nice simple way to display your most popular

Ok this one is specific to the genesis framework and I may have covered it in the past but thought it should be present again. If you use Genesis by Studiopress then this is a plugin you should have.. If you do not use Genesis what are you waiting for… at any rate I have yet to come across a better plugin for featuring posts, pages and custom post types in your side bars. This plugin pull the featured image and you can even set custom links via the meta data.. I have used this plugin for some interesting customizations for displaying posts and can’t recommend it enough.. The only caveat is you must be using Genesis for it to work.

Ok this is a link to the free version although I did not use the free version I imaging it is quite good since only some of the functionality is limited. I recently used this plugins to create a Wiki website for a client to use as an internal database for their company where they can put all their policies for easy reference. They are also having me create a separate website to create a product library. I found this to be a excellent program and pretty versatile to be able to be a wiki or an encyclopedia or even a dictionary. it seems to be very solid and I had little trouble customizing the custom post types for specific layouts.. I almost want to give it a 5 but cannot due to the poor support I encountered when I had questions. There is no easy way to contact the developer he does have a pay system I could not figure out for support and I could not locate his forum. so have to knock it back to a

BulkPress makes this process much easier, by providing you with an easy-to-user interface to add categories (and terms of custom taxonomies) and pages/posts (and posts of custom post types) in bulk, giving you the option to specify a hierarchy in the added posts or terms.
BulkPress can spare you hours of your time, just try and find out for yourself!
