Having a review done by us or having an interview helps the traffic to the developers website, as was bought to our attention recently when we did an interview and reviewed a plugin for a developer who sent us snap shots of their traffic before and after the shows. The traffic stayed, so there are great benefits to being reviewed by WP Plugins A to Z. Submit Your Plugin Here.

Johns Rant:

This is #38 of 52 51 episodes for 2020. Its Episode 479 and the wilderness is calling out to the true and brave. It’s the first of two full moons this month today, time to get out and explore. We are now 39 weeks into 2020 and 28 weeks of the Rona, and the narrative is shot. Yet they are still trying to keep people scared as the numbers keep coming in and it is looking so much better.

Yes, masks are still the rage, and you should still keep one stuffed in your pocket ready to go, even though it’s going to get very dirty it’ll be there for you so you can head into that special storee. Just think you can always use it for TP if you get desperate.

The new programming is failing, not as many are doing the upgrades, and the M5M is panicking in its quest to keep the population scared as they flip from the brief focus on climate change back to riots, but have no fear, WP Plugins A to Z is here to lift your soul.

Now is a good time to find yourself an Oasis like the one at The Rogues Tavern someplace where you can check out from the world and unplug.

What you can do to help your soul:

Minimize or eliminate your M5M exposure,
Stop using FaceCrack
Work on your own little part of the world to make it a better place to be.
Inspire others around you to do the same.
Don’t worry about things you cannot control.
Stop accepting and doing things that are not be your best interest.
Work in your best interest while at the same time respecting and helping others, the rewards will follow.

We have some news from the world of WordPress for you today as well as some great plugins.

Let’s get to the fun we have today.

ClassicPress Options

ClassicPress is a fast growing fork of WordPress that is starting to come into its own. ClassicPress is focused on Business Websites, runs fast and is looking pretty good. There are a few plugins specifically for ClassicPress and all plugins for WordPress 4.9.9 work well on it. I do believe it has a future.

One thing I am looking forward to in the ClassicPress World is the expansion of the number of ClassicPress specific plugins and their own repository. Currently there are not a lot of ClassicPress specific plugins but I do know it is going to grow and I’ll have to expand this segment then. Who knows, it could take over the whole show.

This week for ClassicPress I have:

General info:

ClassicPress snippets and autocompletions – https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=laurencebahiirwa.classicpress-snippets
Laurence Bahiirwa
A collection of snippets and autocompletions for ClassicPress & WordPress theme and plugins development.
Is Toolbar Extras compatible with ClassicPress? – https://toolbarextras.com/docs/plugin-compatible-with-classicpress/
Yes, the Toolbar Extras plugin is fully compatible with ClassicPress! If there might be any compatibility issues in future I am happy to solve as soon as possible. But again, Toolbar Extras is fully compatible.
Alternative products to ClassicPress – https://www.producthunt.com/alternatives/classicpress
ZigPress – Add a ClassicPress or WordPress CPT admin page under a custom menu entry – https://www.zigpress.com/classicpress-cpt-admin-page-custom-menu-entry/
Let’s say you are creating a new ClassicPress or WordPress plugin. It’s quite a big plugin and you’ve decided it should have its own top level entry in the admin menu.
Now let’s say that your plugin sets up a custom post type (CPT) and a custom taxonomy. However, you want the admin page for the CPT to be a submenu entry of your plugin’s main menu entry, instead of having its own top level menu entry.

Just a note for my ClassicPress listeners please send me info to help keep the ClassicPress section full.

The Lowdown:

This one helped fill a need I was having on a site I have been working on. It gives you the ability to categorize your media files in a couple of different ways; you can use its own categories or you can use the categories that are available from your posts.

This helps to be able to pull images into a specific item using the categorized filter. This plugin works pretty good and made the task a fair bit easier.

It will also help you with sorting your media folder into something more usable

The Lowdown:

A simple cartoon vampire character that counts down the days until all hallows eve.
Description:

Total freeby, very simple, kinda cute. You plug it in, and you have your widget!
This IS designed for a sidebar, and it takes up quite a bit of space on your page as I found out – I put it on my main page in Elementor, and it took up my entire page space.

Yet on the site, it only shows as this tiny little square of a cartoon vampire with the count down. I don’t know if that’s kinda normal for sidebar widgets to do – but I found it odd.

It could have more, but for something simple and easy to use, this is a good one.

The Lowdown:
This is another security plugin to help you in the never ending fight against the evil that lurks on the internet.
The free version offers up:
Free Features :

  • Brute force protection. IPs trying to brute force your website will be blocked for 15 minutes after 3 failed login attempts. After multiple lockouts the IP is blocked for 24 hours. This is the default configuration and can be changed from Loginizer -> Brute force page in WordPress admin panel.
  • Failed login attempts logs.
  • Blacklist IPs
  • Whitelist IPs
  • Custom error messages on failed login.
  • Permission check for important files and folders.

there is a pro-version also that extends this out for you.

The Lowdown:

Neat plugin, makes it possible to put up sticky notes on your dashboard for everyone who goes to the dashboard to see. Great if you are working in tandem and don’t have something like Basecamp set up.
Description:

Another total freebie. Last updated 3 months ago, so they keep it up pretty well it seems.
In order to use this, you do need to be able to add info directly into your directory. Took me a while, but I eventually got there.
Pretty simple really, you just download and add the code, and off you go!

Shows up on your dashboard exactly how it looks when you write it. No fancy schmancy ‘looks like a real post it!’ kind of deal, just a note that is either high or low priority.

And you can also edit the notes right in the dashboard too – though you do need to go into the plugin in the menu in order to create a new one it seems.

The Lowdown:

This is a pretty nice little plugin with a bunch of bundled short codes to make your editing life a bit easier. It allows for some quick editing customizations when you are creating a posts and has a few short codes that can make things easier such as Spoiler and more. You can remove or filter the default built in one and then add in your own.

It is used with a simple button in the editor window

Pirates! Who doesn’t love pirates eh?
Description

Last one, and another freebie!

This plugin is 3 years since it’s last update, but it still works perfectly!
What it does, is takes your post words and changes a selection of words into pirate speech. Such as the word ‘the’, becomes ‘ye old’.

Pretty fun!

Unfortunately, you plug it in, and off it goes, so you can’t really pick and choose which post it alters on ya. I think it would be much better if you could just add some short code in and have the post be altered like that, but I wasn’t able to find anything like that.
Perhaps someone out there listening to this will actually know how to do something like that – if you do, let me know!
