Having a review done by us or having an interview helps the traffic to the developers website, as was bought to our attention recently when we did an interview and reviewed a plugin for a developer who sent us snap shots of their traffic before and after the shows. The traffic stayed, so there are great benefits to being reviewed by WP Plugins A to Z. Submit Your Plugin Here.

Amber’s Rant:

Welcome to Episode 590 – Bright Ideas for WordPress – Hopefully this is the last cold front we experience this winter, and that everyone is keeping warm!

Remember: This is a Value for Value show, meaning any value you find here, offer that same value back! We accept all currencies including time and talent currency! Chocolate is always good too…

And don’t skip the end of the show – you never know what kind of amazing life altering advice you might catch!

A special note to all of our Listeners out there: What do you think about the way our show flows? Got an idea? Share it with us! Got a question? Don’t be shy about asking! If you have a question or an idea that will make this show better, don’t hesitate to chuck it at us – if we can’t catch it we will just duck.

…When you see this in the notes, this means we didn’t read this on the show, and that the only way to find this information out is to read our Show Notes!

Breaking News in the WordPress World at large!!

…If I missed something, shoot me a link at – it may show up on the next show!

News this week:

WordPress Vulnerability Report – Jan 25, 2023 ( – There is a large list of fixed vulnerabilities in plugins, and the list for plugins with vulnerabilities is decent size this week. The ones I most easily recognize are:
Eays PayPal Buy NowButton, Page Builder: Live Composer, YouTube Channel Gallery, WP TopBar, and MapWiz.

Awesome Motive acquires Thrive Themes ( – Awesome Motive’s second acquisition of the year already! Thrive Themes is a drag and drop page builder. The co-founders of the plugin have stated that they will not be joining Awesome Motive, they have said that nothing will be changing for their loyal customers. Hopefully that stays true.

WP Migrate 2.6 introduces full-site exports and import to local ( – WP Migrate, formerly known as WP Migrate DB, recently acquired by WP Engine, has now expanded the plugins capabilities to include full-site exports for full integration with Local, a popular and free WordPress development tool also owned by WP Engine.

WordPress Project to evaluate replacing Slack with Matrix Open Source Chat ( – WordPress Matrix contributors are proposing a new meta team subproject that would explore replacing Slack communication with Matrix, an open source federated chat system. Matrix already powers a variety of community chat systems including Element, what is referred to as the Slack Alternative. This is something that has been talked about since 2020, and seems to be coming to fruition.

Yoast SEO 20.0 introduces new admin interface ( – For those who use Yoast, the new update has reordered the munu into 4 sections: General, Content Types, Categories, and Tags. Hopefully it will not take too long for everyone to get used to the new setup.

SQLite Database Integration is now available as a plugin for testing ( – This is an interesting plugin to try testing out. It’s part of the effort of WordPress’s Performance Teams effort to turn their features into plugins.

How will ChatGPT, DALL-E, and other AI tools impact the future of work? We asked 5 experts ( – Great article from TNW with some interesting insights! Like ‘creativity for all – but loss of skills, with humans surpassed, niche and ‘handmaid’ jobs will remain, and leaps in technology will lead to new skills.

Freesoul Deactivate Plugins – plugin manager and cleanup

Requires:4.6 or higher
Compatible up to:6.4.3
Released:13 June 2018
Last Updated:27 February 2024
(4.9 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

I covered this the week before last, and I really liked it! Gave it a 5 dragon rating despite it being a freemium!

Going to use it this week, I realized that they took away one of the most useful tools I had talked about – where you can get a suggestion on which plugins to deactivate – and they put it behind the paywall.

Now I understand that they need to make money, and I fully accept that in order to do so they need to put the really good tools behind the paywall.

That does not stop me feeling rather cranky about it.

They left the ‘preview’ tool, so at least you can deactivate plugins on each page, and preview it before saving to make sure you didn’t break anything with the deactivations. That’s good, I just hope they don’t throw that behind the paywall too…

Still really love this plugin, they did a great job! But I am really cranky about their decision to put the tool behind the paywall – and in my opinion losing that tool brings them down to the typical 4 dragons since now all of the most useful tools are officially behind the paywall.

Automatic TOC – Table of Contents

Requires:5.0 or higher
Compatible up to:6.1.5
Released:27 January 2023
Last Updated:06 February 2023
(0 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

This is a pretty nifty free plugin, one of the plug’n’plays.

It’s a shortcode you can enter into any page or post you want, and you will have a table of contents created from your headings on the page/post.

You can use this as shortcode or as a widget, and you can personalize it through CSS.

This is a great, easy plugin to add a bit more to your pages and posts.

Special thanks goes to:

Free-Lance Producers popping in and out:

…If you have listened to even 10 minutes of this show, or shown up a single time to one of our live shows on YouTube, you are one of our many Free-Lance Producers! Although you guys are always popping in and out at unexpected times, we appreciate your support and periodic help with one thing or another – thank you!

Back Room Producers hanging-out in the Lounge:

Always about the place consuming all the coffee and donuts, these Producers earn it by helping out with our contests, artwork, site organization, notes, questions, suggestions, licenses, and by hiring us! …Back Room Producers, if you ever notice something that needs some work feel free to reach out to us and let us know – you can offer to take it up yourself, or just let us know and we will add it to our list.

War Room Producers:

With their donations of $50 or more these Producers receive a few extra perks – an official AtoZ Handle of their choice, a spotlight in that weeks show for a short speech, an official Executive Producership Credit, and seeing the ‘Magic’ as it happens up in the War Room before we send the show out into the netherworld of the internets! Thank you for sticking by us and helping to keep the Back Room Producers stocked in coffee and donuts!

…**If you prefer to stay anonymous, please let us know at the beginning of your note to us regarding your donation! We are more than happy to keep you anonymous from the world – nobody is ever forced out of the tender embrace of the shadows on this show!**

Thank you, now back to the Meat and Potatoes of Plugin Depravity Edition!

Page Redirects – Redirect to any post, page or product

Requires:5.0 or higher
Compatible up to:6.2.4
Released:26 January 2023
Last Updated:09 May 2023
(0 star out of 5)

The Lowdown:

This is a great plugin for creating custom redirects for your pages, posts, or products! Totally free plugin, you will find the dashboard under Settings>Redirecs (they seem to have forgotten the t).

Unfortunately when I went to try the plugin out, it broke the site. Could be worth looking into if you really want this plugin on your site, likely something going on with the code; I don’t think this one plays nice with others.

ClassicPress is at a crossroads right now, we aren’t sure whether or not they are going to stick around. It seems that either option they choose will have a lot of hard bumps ahead – I hope that they manage to keep ClassicPress going, that they become super strong and amazing like I know they can, and that they manage to keep that part of themselves that caused us to like them so much in the first place.

…A little about ClassicPress for those who aren’t sure: ClassicPress is WordPress frozen at version 4.9. Once WordPress moved to 5, they added in a whole lot of new folders, and the experimental additions to the Core started in earnest. ClassicPress is literally the Classic version of WordPress. A few plugins have been made over the years for just ClassicPress, though all Plugins compatible with WordPress 4.9 should work for ClassicPress.

To any ClassicPress user listening right now: I challenge you – yes YOU – to write a review of your favourite, or least favourite ClassicPress plugin, and send it into us! You can do so by hitting us up at!
