Breaking News in the WordPress World at large!!
If you have anything you think should be added please send it into me at amber@wppro.ca!
News this week:
WordPress Vulnerability Report
(https://www.liquidweb.com/blog/category/wordpress-vulnerability-report/) – In this report there is nothing. It appears that SolidWP no longer has the Vulnerability reports unfortunately.
It is a sad thing, but we must now say goodbye to the SolidWP Vulnerability Report.
WordPress Vulnerability Report from PatchStack
(https://patchstack.com/database/) – These guys are great, keeping up with the info, they always have the latest info waiting there for you so you have what you need at your fingertips!
AI-Related Data Breaches Surging, Verizon Report Says
(https://www.reuters.com/world/ai-related-data-breaches-surpass-stolen-credentials-cyber-incidents-verizon-2026-05-19/) – According to Verizon’s 2026 Data Breach Investigations Report, AI-related data breaches have now surpassed stolen credentials as one of the top causes of cyber incidents.
This is a bit worrying — attackers are using AI to move faster, find vulnerabilities quicker, and create better malware. The report also shows a big jump in “Shadow AI” where employees are using unapproved AI tools at work. Definitely a good reminder to review your own site and team security practices right now.
WordPress 7.1 Planning Kicks Off With August 19 Release Date During WordCamp US
(https://www.therepository.email/wordpress-7-1-planning-kicks-off-with-august-19-release-date-during-wordcamp-us) – 7.0 has dropped and has some good and some bad – as with all massive updates! Looks like they are already planning 7.1 with a target date of August 19th. For those who have not flipped over yet, I would recommend waiting until after the 7.1 release if you can because there will be many little bugs that have been fixed up by this release date.
WordPress AI Plugin Hits 1.0 Milestone With New Request Logging and Connector Approvals Experiments (https://www.therepository.email/wordpress-ai-plugin-hits-1-0-milestone-with-new-request-logging-and-connector-approvals-experiments) – This is what the WordPress Team were originally trying to push straight into core. Instead, they turned it into a separate plugin — and I think that was a really smart move! It now includes better request logging so you can see what the AI is actually doing on your site, plus new experiments that let you control which plugins can use your AI connectors. Definitely worth taking it out for a spin on a test site!
James LePage and Felix Arntz Step Down as WordPress AI Team Co-Reps, LePage Leaves Automattic
(https://www.therepository.email/james-lepage-and-felix-arntz-step-down-as-wordpress-ai-team-co-reps-lepage-leaves-automattic) – Some big changes happening in the WordPress AI Team. James LePage and Felix Arntz have both stepped down as co-reps, and James is leaving Automattic to start his own AI project. This could be a fantastic opportunity for some new blood to come in and shake things up — here’s hoping it leads to good things and not a terrible new regime!
WordPress Gets an Official Browser Extension, Testers Wanted Ahead of 1.0
(https://www.therepository.email/wordpress-gets-an-official-browser-extension-testers-wanted-ahead-of-1-0) – WordPress now has its own official browser extension in the works! It moves common admin shortcuts into your browser toolbar so the admin bar doesn’t get in the way when you’re actually viewing your site. It also adds some handy developer tools.
They’re looking for testers before the 1.0 release, so if you like playing with new stuff, go check it out and throw in some feedback!
NASA Holds Moon Base News Conference
(https://www.nasa.gov/2026-news-releases/) – NASA held a big news conference this week talking about their plans for a permanent Moon Base as part of the Artemis program. They’re working on a real lunar habitat where astronauts can live and work for longer periods.
Seriously, how cool is that?!? A proper MOON BASE! Would people who live there be called Moonlings?
(Go visit WP Shout Comics OR Word Chronicles OR MonkeyUser.com for a fantastic brain break – my favourite today is this one!)

Security Stuff:
Building a security.txt file and using it
Steps to Fix “Security.txt Not Configured”
- Generate the File: Use the securitytxt.org generator to create a compliant file with your security contact information (email, security page, or phone number).
- Create the Path: Create a directory named
.well-knownin your website’s root directory. - Place the File: Save the text file as
security.txtinside the.well-knownfolder. - Verify Requirements: Ensure the file is served over HTTPS and has a
text/plaincontent type. - Optional – Sign the File: For enhanced authenticity, you can create a detached signature for your
security.txtfile using GPG
Alternative Methods
- Cloudflare Users: You can generate and manage this directly through the Cloudflare dashboard under Security > Settings.
- Apache Servers: You can configure your server to serve it automatically using a rewrite rule to the
/.well-known/path.
Why You Should Fix This
- Vulnerability Reporting: It provides a clear, accessible channel for ethical hackers to report vulnerabilities before they are exploited.
- Standardization: Adheres to emerging security best practices, showing a proactive commitment to security.
A security.txt file is an important component of modern website security because it provides a standardized, easy-to-find way for security researchers, ethical hackers, and bug bounty hunters to contact the site owners about vulnerabilities.
Placed at https://example.com/.well-known/security.txt (or /security.txt), it follows a simple, machine-readable format (similar to robots.txt) that lists preferred contact methods (email, PGP key, bug bounty program URL, etc.), disclosure policy, and expiration date. Without it, researchers often waste time hunting for the right email, trying generic addresses like security@ or abuse@, or even resorting to public social media — which can delay reports or push them toward less responsible disclosure channels.
By making responsible reporting frictionless, security.txt dramatically improves the chances that vulnerabilities are reported privately and fixed quickly before malicious actors discover and exploit them. It signals that the organization takes security seriously, encourages coordinated vulnerability disclosure, and ultimately reduces the overall attack surface of the website. Major organizations (including Google, GitHub, and many governments) already publish them, and adoption is growing as a best practice.
Coding Tips:
Fix the horrible new colour scheme in wp7 **Do This Before You update****
Add this to your child theme’s functions.php file (or a custom plugin) ***YOU ARE USING A CHILD THEME CORRECT***:
```
/**
* Fix issue from WP7 upgrade Force Admin Color Scheme for All Users
*/
add_filter( 'get_user_option_admin_color', 'force_default_admin_color_scheme', 5 );
function force_default_admin_color_scheme( $color_scheme ) {
// Change this to your preferred scheme:
// fresh (Default), light, modern, blue, coffee, ectoplasm, midnight, ocean, sunrise
return 'fresh'; // ← Change this value
}
```
Optional: Also hide the color picker (recommended for true forcing)
To prevent users from changing it themselves, add this as well:
```
/**
* Remove Admin Color Scheme Picker from Profile pages
*/
add_action( 'admin_head-profile.php', 'remove_admin_color_scheme_picker' );
add_action( 'admin_head-user-edit.php', 'remove_admin_color_scheme_picker' );
function remove_admin_color_scheme_picker() {
remove_action( 'admin_color_scheme_picker', 'admin_color_scheme_picker' );
}
```
Alternative (for new users only):
If you only want to set the default for newly registered users, use this instead:
```
add_action( 'user_register', 'set_default_admin_color_new_users' );
function set_default_admin_color_new_users( $user_id ) {
$args = array(
'ID' => $user_id,
'admin_color' => 'fresh' // Change as needed
);
wp_update_user( $args );
}
```

John’s Plugin
WPProAtoZ CPT Selector for Elementor
https://github.com/Ahkonsu/wpproatoz-cpt-selector
The Lowdown:
A lightweight WordPress plugin that lets you select multiple Custom Post Types from a central settings page and display them as a clean, automatically linked list using a simple shortcode. Fully compatible with Elementor and respects custom Archive Slugs set in ACF Post Types.
Overview
WPProAtoZ CPT Selector for Elementor provides an easy way to create a navigation list of your custom post type archives.
Select any number of Custom Post Types once in the plugin settings, and display a linked list anywhere on your site — especially useful inside Elementor using the Shortcode widget.
The plugin automatically links each post type name to its archive page, using the custom Archive Slug you configure in ACF > Post Types > Advanced Configuration > URLs tab.

WordPress Tips
We would love to hear some tid bit tips from some of our producers out there – what did you figure out by breaking something? Or what did you need to learn in order to help someone? You can send these tid bits into me at amber@wppro.ca
My tip to you today…
Whenever you’ve got a tedious task coming up — like moving a pile of images one by one (because there’s never a bulk option when you have more than 50, right? Murphy’s Law of site work strikes again), or trying to figure out which of the 50+ plugins on your playground site is breaking everything — I highly recommend throwing on a playlist of music you know so well it just becomes background noise.
For me, it’s Witchz with a zed. There’s something about his music that makes the entire outside world just vanish, and I can stay locked in my little bubble of screens and keyboard.
Some people can’t handle lyrics, others actually like a talking show like a podcast in the background — whatever it is for you, if it helps the world outside your bubble of screens and keyboard fade away, put it on and just get going!
And if you don’t have anything that works for you yet, take the time now to figure it out. Taking that time upfront will save you so much time and frustration in the long run, so don’t feel guilty about it!
It’s like tackling a giant sandwich… you don’t have to figure out the whole thing at once. Just pick a spot and start. The workflow usually takes over from there.

Amber’s Plugin
WooCommerce Custom My Account Dashboard Plugin
https://qodewire.com/p/woocommerce-custom-my-account-dashboard/
The Lowdown:
This is a Premium plugin sent in by David Karuri with qodewire.com. He has this to say about it:
Not sure if anyone else has struggled with this, but the default WooCommerce “My Account” page is honestly embarrassing. Just a plain list of orders and some basic account info.
Our clients were spending way too much time answering questions that customers should’ve been able to answer themselves. Customers kept emailing us asking about order statuses that were literally right there on the page, but I guess it was just too bland for anyone to actually engage with it.
So we built the WooCommerce Custom My Account Dashboard plugin. Basically transforms the boring default page into an actual dashboard with Real-time order statistics (total orders, processing, completed, pending), Visual analytics charts so customers can see their order history at a glance, Activity logs showing what’s happening with their account, and Full customization options (colors, text, what sections to show).
The goal was to make it so non-technical store owners could set up a professional-looking customer portal. Everything’s configurable through the WooCommerce settings.
The plugin works automatically with any theme. It’s also HPOS compatible since we know that’s important for performance.
That’s exactly why I think your audience would love this. You already talk a lot about improving store UX, boosting conversions, and giving clients a better experience. This plugin fits perfectly into those conversations, and it’s simple enough that even non-technical users can get results in minutes.
Just wanted to put it out there in case anyone else has been dealing with the same customer engagement issues or just wants the WooCommerce dashboard to look better.
So of course I was excited to dive right into this!
Once downloaded and activated, you need to head over to WooCommerce > Settings > Enhanced Dashboard to set everything up. There are three main tabs: General, Appearance, and Content Display. Let’s walk through them!
General – Here you can set a custom Welcome Message, decide whether to show an Action Button, plus choose the button text and URL. Hit Save Changes and you’re done with this part.
Appearance – This is where you customize the look. Set border colors for the Total Orders, Processing, Completed, and Pending cards. You can also tweak the chart settings or even hide the chart completely. For Chart Type you’ve got Bar, Line, Pie, or Doughnut. Save Changes when you’re happy!
Content Display – Here you choose which sections to show: Stats Grid, Orders Table, and Activity Log. You can also set how many items to display in each section (default is 5). Quick note from my testing — I tried putting in ‘999’ and it told me the value must be 20 or less. Smart move by the devs!
And that’s really it for setup! Once you save everything, you get a really nice, personalized client dashboard that’s so much easier for customers to read and understand at a glance.
This plugin plays well with others, feels lightweight, and does a solid job of cutting down on all those repetitive customer questions. It’s freemium, but they’re currently offering a lifetime license for $69, which I think is worth grabbing if you run a Woo store and want to level up that My Account experience.

Q & A Time with Amber – Catch this info on our YouTube Channel
If you have questions you would like to have asked on the show, send them in to me atAmber@WPPro.ca – !
- WordPress 7.0 has officially dropped and there’s been a lot of chatter about the new dashboard setup — some things people really love, and a few they don’t. One cool feature I’ve heard about is the new Command Palette (Ctrl/Cmd + K) that’s now available from anywhere so you don’t have to hunt through menus!What’s one thing you really love about the new setup, and what’s one thing you just don’t love??
- If you could recommend one improvement for the new dashboard in an upcoming point release, what would it be and why?
Questions asked after closing credits:
- For those who’ve been using WordPress for a while but still feel a bit overwhelmed when it comes to organizing content on their site — what’s one habit or approach that’s helped you the most over the years?
- What’s the biggest “I wish I had known this earlier” lesson you’ve learned while working on client sites or your own projects in the last year or so?
