John’s Rant: What to rant about?

I would like to thank David and the guys over at https://FatCatApps.com with the plugin Quiz Cat. As reviewed on the last show I thought it was a great plugin but was having some issues. After they had a look it turned out it was me and the additional  plugins I run on the WP Plugins A to Z site. But they found the issues and solved them and have added those fixes into their next update. So kuddos to the the guys at FAT Cat Apps.

Goodbye WordPress – JAMES DALMAN

I’ve struggled whether it would be appropriate to share my experience and struggles in the WordPress community. A few people have encouraged me to open up. A few people have begged me to remain silent.

During this time I’ve been able to experience the highest of highs, but also the lowest of lows. As fun as a roller coaster ride can be, it was time to get off. Read original article here…. jamesdalman.com

Stop Blaming Your Host for Overages – BlogAid

https://www.blogaid.net/stop-blaming-your-host-for-overages/Having a hosting account limited due to resource overages, or even locked or terminated has become a common occurrence. 99% of the time the host is in the right. But, their fix for the problem could be a rip off. Discover what your responsibilities are as a site owner and how to not get upsold or shut down.

I stand amazed and stunned at what site owners blame their host for.

These are the 3 most common rants I hear :

Botnet and DDoS attacks began to become bigger and more frequent in early 2013. Then in March 2014 the highest sustained bot attack in history began and lasted for nearly a year. Read original article here…. blogaid.net

GoDaddy’s New Primer Theme Bypasses Theme Review Queue, Highlights Bottlenecks in Review Process

https://wptavern.com/godaddys-new-primer-theme-bypasses-theme-review-queue-highlights-bottlenecks-in-review-processAs part of its new onboarding experience for WordPress customers, GoDaddy has created a group of 10 themes to streamline the process of creating a business website. In order to host updates more effectively, the company is submitting the themes to WordPress.org and the first one is now live after less than 24 hours in the theme review queue.

Samuel Wood, who works on WordPress.org but is not part of the Theme Review Team, explained in the ticket why he processed the theme outside of the queue. Read original article here…. wptavern.com

Hello, John and Marcus,
I discovered your podcast after starting my first e-commerce website and it has been most helpful! I’ve run into an issue that I imagine a plug-in should solve but I can’t find one that does what I need–or maybe it’s that I haven’t found the right terminology. If I am using multiple order fulfillment methods, is there a plug-in that will allow me to choose which method is assigned to which product? For example, if I’m selling t-shirts that are printed with Printful, pants that are housed at an order fulfillment warehouse, and various other items that I ship from my personal office, how can I assign each product in my store to just one of those three fulfillment options?
If anyone knows this answer, it’s you!
Thanks!
Forest
Hi Forrest,
You may have to do some combining of multiple plugins or better yet find one of the many fulfilllment plugins that are available and then have it customized to your needs, just think if you did that you could possible market it out to others in your situation.

Authorize IP Address

The Lowdown:
You can add a new layer of security for your site and your users with this plugin. This also helps prevent users from sharing their login credentials in the case of a membership site. What it does is look at the IP that was last seen for the user logging in to see if it match’s if not it send an email to the user for verification and the need to use the one time link in the email to login. You can also have it send notification to the site admin to see if users are trying to abuse the system.  Simply install and activate this plugin and you have helped to secure it up a bit.

<.htaccess> IP block

The Lowdown:
Another way to help add some security to your site. This plugin help block unwanted visitors by blocking thier IPs using the htaccess file and the IP list is stored in your database instead of the htaccess file. The big problem here is that you will need some tech skills as well as access to apache. So this plugin will not be of much value to anyone who is on a shared enviroment. But if you have the skills and access this can be of great help.

Decorations For Occasions

Custom Thank You Page For Woocommerce

This is a very simple and strait forward Plugin for Woocommerce Shop Owners that would like to send their users to a thank you page that is different from the default Woocommece order received page. You can set the thank you page on a product by product basis. When the Plugin is installed you will see a new field under the General tab on each Product Edit Screen. This is where you can specify where you would like customers directed to after the purchase of that product.
