WordPress: Protect your website from cyber criminals

https://theusbport.com/wordpress-protect-your-website-from-cyber-criminals/28243WordPress is one of the most widely used platforms for hosting and site building in the world. Developers of the WordPress team do their best in rolling out monthly updates to keep sites secure, but admins can always tune their settings and install additional plugins to bolster security.

With cyber-attacks on the rise, it is always advised to use every security measure at our disposal that we consider can make us be safer. Regular maintenance, of course, is also something that should always be kept in mind and be automated if possible. Read original article here…. theusbport.com

How I Use Fiverr to Grow My WordPress Business

https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/grow-wordpress-business-fiverr/?imob=c&utm_expid=3606929-106.UePdqd0XSL687behGg-9FA.2It’s crucial that you explore as many avenues as possible for finding clients when you’re starting out as a web developer. Platforms like Upwork can be a great place to start building your portfolio of work and list of clientele. Then there’s Fiverr, a platform that is often overlooked.

Why is Fiverr overlooked? Because most people can’t get past the fact that the initial pricing point is $5. When you put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into your work, $5 just isn’t work the effort, right? But with some clever strategy on your part, you can use Fiverr to grow your WordPress business, perhaps at an even faster rate than you would with Upwork.

And how do I know all this? I use Fiverr myself as part of my own digital marketing business strategy. Read original article here…. premium.wpmudev.org

After seeing relatively optimistic results in the previous post where I analyzed ThemeForest, this post focuses on the CodeCanyon marketplace, trying to dive into its unit economics and understand what are the chances of “making a living” by using it to sell premium WordPress plugins. https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/mistakes-building-wordpress-sites/Not a good way to be spending your time hours before the clocks chimed in the New Year.

Let’s take a step back.

How did I end up in this situation, and why wasn’t I chilling in a beach bar sipping on a Ti’ Punch while waiting for the Champagne to cool?

The truth is, I hadn’t put in the project management systems in place that would have prevented this situation.

I work at Planio, a project management tool, and I’ve talked to lots of WordPress developers on how they manage client projects using it. Read original article here…. premium.wpmudev.org

WordPress website go-live checklist

https://barn2.co.uk/wordpress-website-go-live-checklist/So you’ve designed a new WordPress website and it’s ready to go live. Congratulations!

Going live is an important part of the web design process. Over the years, we have developed a detailed checklist of essential steps for launching a WordPress website. Read this checklist before you launch a website into the big wide world, and give it the best possible start.

There’s a right and a wrong time to go live. For some reason our clients always want to go live on a Friday. Bad idea!

Schedule the launch of the website for as early in the week as possible. This leaves the longest possible time to complete the go-live checklist and fix any teething problems before the weekend, when your WordPress web designer may not be available. Read original article here…. barn2.co.uk

Update a Free and Premium Version of the Same WordPress Plugin Error

https://bobwp.com/errors-updating-free-premium-version-wordpress-plugin/As you might have noticed, there are some plugins that when you upgrade to the paid version, you are required to keep the free version installed as well. The reasoning or methods behind this are not something I don’t care to understand.

But in many cases, when there is an update to one of them, often you will find an update to the other as well.

How Do You Educate People New to WordPress?

https://wptavern.com/how-do-you-educate-people-new-to-wordpressWhen a friend of mine asked for suggestions on what he should use to create a new site, I suggested WordPress. It is well supported, has an amazing community, and a ton of free themes and plugins to choose from. After getting WordPress installed on a new webhosting account, I left him be to see what issues he would run into and how he would configure the site.

After noticing the site was loading slowly three weeks later, I obtained admin access to try to determine what the problem was. The first thing I did was check which plugins he installed. One of the plugins added the ability to embed YouTube videos on the site using shortcodes. My friend was unaware that WordPress has oEmbed support which allows users to easily embed videos by pasting the URL into the editor. Read original article here…. wptavern.com

Well that’s a wrap for this week more next week from WP Plugins A to Z.

28 Facts You Probably Don’t Know About WordPress [Infographic]

WordPress Popularity

Just about everyone who has gone through the process of trying to figure out exactly how they will get a website online has run into WordPress already. It is an extremely popular CMS but you might not realize just how many websites are using it in 2016.

Endless Options

As we mentioned in the earlier segment, WordPress provides an almost endless amount of customization’s that you can use on your website. There are over 45,000 plugins available for free which adds functionality, and over 4,000 free themes that can change the look of a website.

WordPress Security Breaches

Yes, it’s sad but true that WordPress has been the target of some quite large security breaches. It just goes to show that once you become big enough and popular enough you will become the target of people who want to take you down. The same thing happened with Windows when it became the most popular operating system for home computers. It became the target for virus makers, WordPress is not immune to that.

When a funeral happens many people who have known the decedent come out then offer lots of sentiment and offers of help. It’s time to test that sentiment since this is not a funeral but a look at how those who would attend a funeral can help in there here and now.

RIP WP Plugins A to Z

Did I grab your attention? Perfect you are ready for the message.

This is a final plea to all our fans, listeners and friends out that that would like to see WP Plugins A to Z move on to the next level.

When a funeral happens many people who have known the decedent come out then offer lots of sentiment and offers of help. It’s time to test that sentiment since this is not a funeral but a look at how those who would attend a funeral can help in there here and now. When a funeral happens many people who have known the decedent come out then offer lots of sentiment and offers of help. It’s time to test that sentiment since this is not a funeral but a look at how those who would attend a funeral can help in there here and now.

WP Plugins A to Z is not going to die but it looks like it will pull back a bit, while I really enjoy doing this show and have high hopes for the website and what could be possible for it I will have to pull back a bit on it. I have been running a Kickstarter for the past 26 days in the hopes that my friends and audience would jump forward to support the show. But it looks like I over estimated the support for the show.

This is the final push to see if a miracle can be pulled off and make this a reality. This is an outreach to all my listeners, and social media connections to see if we can make the kickstarter a success.

From my count I have approximately three thousand 3k, RL and online friends, followers and listeners to my podcast, twitter and Facebook feed.

Here is the question. How many of my RL and online friends, followers and listeners to my podcast would attend my funeral or at the minimum send flowers?

If only 20 percent of you would attend my funeral and or send flowers I would expect that would be about $50 each. So instead of coming to my funeral or sending flowers you would instead go to my Kickstarter page and pledge $50 or more we could obtain the goal of 30k and turn this podcast into the great show it can be.

The WP Plugins A to Z Podcast and Website Network Kickstarter campaign.

It seems that I have hit a crossroads in my life and need to choose a path after 240 shows and 5 years this is something I have thought long and hard about for the WP Plugins A to Z podcast and website.

As many of our loyal fans have noticed the show has been intermittent as of late and this has been due to many reasons but mostly due to a lack of time to be able to focus on the show and the website due to my other obligations as a WordPress developer to keep food on the table. Yes the WP Plugins A to Z show is free and will always be free but it takes time to produce each episode and well time is a limited resource.

So this is why I am making an appeal to you our loyal fan base and everyone else out there to support the WP Plugins A to Z Podcast and website. Where we can bring you valuable material, tips the best plugins and more.

We will be starting off a Kickstarter for WP Plugins A to Z in mid to late December with some great rewards and look forward to your support.

Started in 2011 by John Overall and joined a few months later by Marcus Couch the WP Plugins A to Z show is a podcast for the WordPress community that now has 240 episodes out and a fantastic listener base of thousands. The show is about plugins for WordPress and each episode brings new plugins which are reviewed by the hosts John Overall and Marcus Couch.

WP Plugins A to Z reviews are unbiased, fair and discuss the good and the bad about plugins as well as sharing insights on how a particular plugin can be used to enhance a website. They discuss and include ways in which the plugins can be used to save time and make you money.

After doing 240+ episodes the time has come to make the WP Plugins A to Z podcast and website a full time business and be able to put aside the need for taking clients to support their families.

The money raised will be used to allow the dedication of full time hours to the development of more quality show content and a more useful website with support forums, training videos and other useful tips.

The podcast will expand to 2 episodes per week with one episode dedicated to interviewing other members of the WordPress community with a focus on plugin developers from around the globe. Showcasing their plugins and getting more in-depth into the developers mindset about the plugin.

The updated web site will include sections for training videos, forums for sharing information, tips and tricks on how to better use plugins for saving time and earing more profit. It will have a place for plugin developers to share their plugins including a premium plugin directory and more.

The WP Plugins A to Z Podcast is freely available on iTunes, Stitcher, BluBrry and of course on our website. What a successfully funded campaign will accomplish is to make WP Plugins A to Z a better show than it ever was and bring more content to the WordPress community.

WordPress Powers 79% Of Websites In 2015: Top Plugins & Themes [REPORT]

WordPress Powers 79% Of Websites In 2015: Top Plugins & Themes [REPORT]https://dazeinfo.com/2015/05/13/top-cms-wordpress-themes-plugins-study/WordPress CMS (Content Management Solution) is the world leader when it comes to hosting content driven websites. According to a new report from CodeGuard, a website backup and monitoring service provider, 79 percent of content websites are powered by WordPress, followed by Joomla with 7.2 percent and Drupal with 5.3 percent.

The report also highlights the fact that due to ease of installation, management and support, WordPress is being adopted by website designers and developers more than bloggers, eventually making it a real Content Management System. The number of static pages hosted on WordPress is greater than posts. Most of the hosting providers have started offering WordPress specialized hosting to cash in on the growing trend. Some of these providers are offering WordPress Installation on shared environment while there are few offering the complete dedicated server optimized for WordPress CMS.

The report also lists down the top WordPress themes installed by the site owners. Avada, Twenty Twelve, and Twenty Eleven are the most preferred themes by WordPress admins. Read original article here…

A Fascinating Look At The WordPress Job Landscape

A Fascinating Look At The WordPress Job Landscapehttps://www.webpronews.com/a-fascinating-look-at-the-wordpress-job-landscape-2015-05WP Engine released some interesting research into the “WordPress economy” and jobs that call for WordPress skills throughout the United States. The study utilized online listings from Indeed.com for WordPress-centric positions, and analyzed which jobs are most in demand, which areas show the most interest in WordPress skills, and which salaries are most common.

“WordPress is the most dominant content management system on the web today,” the report says. “It has a diverse user base comprising personal bloggers, Fortune 500 companies, and all types of businesses in between. WordPress’s flexibility makes the platform capable of meeting almost any business’s needs. When companies rely on WordPress for their blogging and content management system needs, they’re looking for competent professionals to handle the day-to-day operations. These roles can range from theme designers and software developers to writers and system administrators.”

Looking at data from Wappalyzer.com, it found that WordPress has 65% of market share for sites using a CMS. Read original article here…

What to Expect in WordPress 4.2: Theme Switching and Emoji Everywhere

What to Expect in WordPress 4.2: Theme Switching and Emoji Everywherehttps://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/wordpress-4-2/?utm_expid=3606929-28.V9Bw_8diSVaOFQtRZ6k9ZA.0A great update to the theme customizer is the ability to switch themes and make customizations without affecting the live site. This is a huge leap forward, allowing users to not just preview but modify the design of an inactive theme without resorting to plugins. If you’re interested, the chatter about this feature was added to ticket #31303.

To be honest, the Emoji craze has completely gone over my head but lots of people use them and it now seems to be a ubiquitous way of communicating, which means that it should be implemented in WordPress as well.

It seems that updating will still be included in 4.2 and can be tested easily. In fact, it’s pretty awesome. If all other features discussed work as smoothly as this feature, we’ll have a much better user experience dealing with plugins.

Developers can now add non-sticky admin notices, ones which users can dismiss. All you need to do is add .notice and .is-dismissable as classes to your notice containers and they should automagically become dismissable. Read original article here…

Why You Can't Afford Not to Attend a WordCamp

Why You Can’t Afford Not to Attend a WordCamphttps://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/wordcamps/WordCamps are aimed at everyone and anyone who uses WordPress. You don’t have to be an experienced developer to benefit from a WordCamp – there are sessions for users, too, as well as for designers and people more interested in the business of WordPress.

Most WordCamps have more than one track of talks aimed at different audiences or skill levels, so you might find a user track in one room at the same time as a developer track in another. This means that there’s a huge range of topics being covered by the talks and a wide range of levels they’re pitched at.

Aside from all the things you’ll learn at a WordCamp, you’ll hear about new trends in web development and ideas for taking WordPress further. You’ll meet people working with WordPress in as way you haven’t thought of but would love to try. And you’ll learn about career opportunities with WordPress that you might not even have known existed. Read original article here…
