Listener Feedback / Audio Clips

Question from Arlen about how someone know about plugin coding.

**WordPress Plugins Reviewed by John**

Bottom 3 plugins from the popular list # 649, 50 and 51 well it was going to be any until I realized that were either broken or of no real value to general users so I pulled 3 random ones from popular, sometimes I forget how hard it is to find a plugin when you do not have a goal wow there is some crap out there

The Bar Steward 1.2

The lowdown:
A nice simple way to clean up your tool bar of unwanted and unneeded links added by the following plugins.

  • Yoast WordPress SEO
  • CDN Synch Tool
  • NextGen Gallery
  • BackWPup
  • Social Metrics
  • Ultimate Security Checker

It works nice and simple and lazy

All in One Webmaster 8.0.0

The lowdown
This is an all in one place to add your different codes for the webmaster tools accounts out there from Google, Bing, Alexa, Blog catalog and Facebook insights. As well as add you analytics codes and quickcodes to the header or footer and to do manual submission of your site. While I do not see a use for it myself since I have other plugins already doing these functions someone else may find this useful

Exploit Scanner 1.3.1

The lowdown

This plugin is to help you find any issues on your website  and the posts and comments tables of your database for anything suspicious. It also examines your list of active plugins for unusual filenames. Simply upload and run a scan after a fe min it will tell you if you any issues you need to address. Keep in mind the final readout is not always bad stuff but what it sees as possible, it found several things on my test site that are known to be good.

Defaults the Image Link option when adding a photo to none.

Marcus’ Take: This is a lazy plugin. Simple and easy to use. Install, activate and no longer be hassled by images that automatically link to themselves.

GEO Redirector

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/geo-redirector/

This plugin will allow you to redirect your URLs according to the visitors geographical location. And you can manage redirect the visitor given radius inside or outside a specific area.

Requires: 3.0.1 or higher
Compatible up to: 3.4.2
Last Updated: 2012-10-7
Downloads: 89

Marcus’ Take: An outstanding plugin who’s time has come. This allows you to redirect to a specific landing page or content area based on where the visitor is from. Remember though, sometimes a viewers IP address might vary, depending on who their Internet service provider is. This literally provides you with a map and allows you to select the radius around that area and a destination URL to send them to. Transversely, you can also choose a specific radius and if they are NOT in the radius, it sends them to a URL of your choice as well.

Web Screenshots

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/web-screenshots/

Displays Thumbnails of a given URL usings wordpress.com inofficial API. Use Shortcode with url and some optional params.

Requires: 3.0 or higher
Compatible up to: 3.4.2
Last Updated: 2012-10-5
Downloads: 41

Marcus’ Take: Most recently, I was involved in an affiliate project with one of the listeners of the show. We had over 300 different affiliate merchant sites to screenshot, edit, scale and re-upload. It has taken WEEKS to get done. This plugin would have saved us ALL of that work with a simple shortcode. You simply add the shortcode with the URL and the size (default is 250×250) and WordPress does it’s magic. The process is handled through the WP API, which is very unique to these types of plugins. Combined with a caching plugin, this is a very cool development in how WordPress can handle and manipulate real time data from other sites. The only drawback that I found was the lack of a custom ALT tag, which I’ve already informed the developer about.
