Now I have a question.
I would like to create my own webpage as much as possible as I am very curious how it’s done and I love to be creative. My webpage is for my photography business and that’s where I have a question.
Could you recommend certain Themes and/or plugins which are a must? Perhaps also Twitter/FB/G+/P etc Widgets. And how can I post something on my blog which then is automatically pushed to my FB/G+/Twitter accounts?
Thanx a lot for your support. And again I love the show. But not Diablo 😀

Ad Injection 1.2.0.15

The lowdown:
This plugin is a pretty nice way of adding Google ads to your website. the only issue i had was in the installation and configuration of the plugin. It required some deciphering to understand how to place all the code and setting up how many ads would; appear and when. All in all a pretty good plugin though once you figure out the installations of it all. I do like the way you can float the ads left or right but it has one flaw I think in that it will only allow you to float all or none. It does have some nice features for filtering the ads by ip, keyword, referrer such as search engines. You can also limit ads to appear only in certain categories or with certain authors. Lots of ways to limit ad showing.

JQuery Expanding Box 1

The Lowdown:
I needed a simple way to create expanding boxes for an FAQ page and instead of coding jquery I thought I would see if there was a plugin ready to go and here it it is. It turns out this is a very nice plugin for handling that on a couple of pages when you do not want to code everything. It uses short codes to handle the placement of the expansion of content and you can format it in any way you like. All in all a nice little plugin. It did require a small bit to understand the full use of the short codes but they do offer you some starter samples to get you going.

Wordfence Security 3.0.8

The Lowdown:
This plugin was introduced to me by a client who had it recommended to him after his site was hacked. I have now installed it on several sites and am finding it pretty useful. It has a premium version that will scan your plugin files and theme files against the repository. It does scan the core files against the repository it will send you alerts and it even has some firewall rules you can implement. It will tell you if someone is trying to use your password retrieval page as well as lock out their IP address. It will look at live traffic and all in all this is a pretty nice security plugin.

A WordPress plugin/Dashboard Widget that allows you to connect to any database and edit the contents.

This plugin is a dashboard widget to allow you to connect to any MySQL database of your choice (as long as your hosting allows) and search, edit, add and delete records in an easy to use interface. Ideal if you have built a site referencing another database and you want to allow other editors/administrators of the site to alter, update, delete, add and correct entries.

Marcus’ Take: A really great platform for the do it all webmaster. This lets you edit any database that you have credentials for. I was searching for a plugin that I could edit my ad server output and found this as a result. It gave me everything I asked for and more.

Replace Featured Image with Video is a simple plugin to replace the featured image in your wordpress post or page with a video. Supports Youtube, Dailymotion, Vimeo and many other sites that provide embedd code.. just don’t forget to edit the embedd code to the size of your featured image. BONUS: This plugin will override any existing featured image so removal or deletion is not necessary.

Marcus’ Take: In a nutshell, this will replace the featured image in your wordpress website with a video. I have been looking for a way to add videos into a theme automatically, as I would have embedded images from the featured images inserted dynamically. This cross-theme solution was my lazy way out of programming the entire theme core over.

Simple wordpress plugin that embeds a counter in your blog and shows the number of visits your website’s pages and posts has. Enables you to display how many times a post/page had been viewed.

Marcus’ Take: Simple and easy way to add a counter on your posts for popularity reasons. I sought this out for a client project that needed an old school counter. This was an easy way to get the counter embedded without going through a third party counter source.

Scripts n Styles 3.2

The Lowdown:
While polishing off a major project I ran into an issue that I hoped would have a plugin solution instead of having to go into the css one more time. The problem was needing to make a custom on a couple of posts but only for the text sure easy enough to do in css but hey I am the plugin guy after all. So I went looking and this is what I found.
Now I had high hopes but it turns out I was not able to focus this on a per post basis so I had to go back to the css to write what I wanted but it does have some great potential for site-wide css and scripts and it has something interesting called hoops that may come in handy. It allows an admin to allow certain html usage that is often stripped out by WordPress to prevent less leveled users from messing thins up. Plus a few other tools that may be fun.

Well scratch all that just as I was about to toss i discovered how to make it work and it is pretty sweet how it applied something to a specific page. Seems that I almost the box on the post/page that allows you to enter something for that specific post experiment with some other scripts and wow they hit it out of the park here I think what a time save when you only need to customize a single page or two.

WP-Cufon 1.6.10

The Lowdown:
So you need some custom fonts and you cant find what you want at Google fonts or fonts.com or any other place this may be your solution. Well you need to go here and convert your font http://cufon.shoqolate.com/generate/ then install this plugin and upload a couple files to your site. In particular you need to upload the font you just turned into a .js script. Setting and assigning it is pretty much the same as any font you can either assign by main body types ie H1 or p tags or assign to specific spots via custom css using the plugin before. I did find this one a bit more work to use that other ways I have talked about in the past for webfonts.

Ride em cowboy>>>>>>>>>>Self Promotion From John an Marcus<<<<<<<<<<<<

Johns WordPress training classes starting soon, almost ready with seminars online training and for those in Victoria classes that will starting on a regular basis here… As well as WordPress Emergency WordPress support you know when you see the ever favorite White Screen of Death. Marcus Offer SEO listen for details.

John’s  Rant:

I have recently started seeing some real pain in the ass emails for what I consider stupid shit. I received an email this past week from some twit who was asking me to remove some very old links from an old website. Seems once upon a time I had used articles from a article directory on a niche site I built a couple of years back. Now that Google is getting all the paranoid to help clean up the web these folks who had done some of their marketing via these articles are scanning the web and making lame threats to get folks to remove the links like this but monkey who had sent me this email. I did remove his content but I also sent him a worded email about how you can get better results by asking and not making false threats like a lawsuit because I was linking to his site. Seems I was correct in remembering that the courts have upheld linking to a website that is publicly available cannot be controlled. After all this it does dawn on me that if you work for the dark side you have some major opportunities to destroy your competition through negative SEO though.

Now that that fun is over on the plus side I have been pretty busy this week seems when it rains it pours. Just as I thought I had hit a wall of slowdown lots of great folks started asking for some work to be done on their sites. Good timing also as I am about to launch a new major project I was wondering if I would be bored for a few days but no longer The work is lining up again thanks everyone and a few of you even listen to the show so thanks.

Also I have been seeing an increase in articles about how you should avoid Free WordPress themes. Something to think about..

Plus the spammers of domain sales have hit an all time low.. I own a domain called tamethewildweb.com which is due for renewal and they are trying to sell me my own domain name at a reasonable price…

Also as a warning to others if you are planning to move to a new host don’t tell the old one until you move. Ran into an issue helping a client move this week when as a nice guy he told the old host he was planning to move and they lock his account before we could get al his files and now he has to get them to unlock everything thus delaying the move.

Some notes on Managewp.com seems it is actually pretty nice, listen to the show for all the details. I had 30 min before show so set it up and configured 5 sites This is something I think would be great if you have similar sites, but it does have the ability to control site by site. Plus you can clean your database as well as spam comments plus deal with comments for approval.
Something interesting, on one site it did the update and crashed then when I did the plugins it righted itself. Probably because I did WordPress update before plugins but because I was doing plugins from this dashboard I was not locked out until I fixed issue

Plus 3.4 downloads now over 3mil

Shout Outs:

SEO Facebook Comment 1.4.5.1

The Lowdown:
This is a pretty nice facebook integration of your comments, it still leaves all you original comments in place as well as your regular commenting system. You do have to go and create a Facebook app to use it but that it not that difficult to accomplish. I found the setup to be pretty straight forward. From what the author says this is different in that is plus facebook to your database and then displays it all and not just in an iframe so you will get the seo benefit of the comments. It also give the commenter the option to post to facebook or not, plus when making a comment if you manage many pages you can choose who to be when creating the comment.

And The Winner Is… 1.1.1

The Lowdown:
So I had a client that wanted to run a contest where they would read about it in print then have to go to the website and answer a trivia question from the print publication and then get entered to win a prize. They would get entered right or wrong but they still wanted to direct them. I have come up with a solution involving Gravity forms but they discovered this plugin and asked me to use it instead so here is my impression of it.

What it is designed to do is change any post into a contest where all the comments become entries and then the plugin will do a random selection of the winner at the end date of contest. Set up is easy It seems to work out ok and has an easy to select the winner so we are running it and if I run into any issues will report back.
Rating 3 Dragons

Content Scheduler 0.9.8

The lowdown:

I have actually been using this plugin on another client’s site for sometime now and had to use it again for the one above. The reason of course was to stop publishing of the contest post without having to get in there and remember to do that in case they cannot get in and select winner on the end date and had to come in a couple days late.  I have found this to be working pretty nicely and does a nice job of stopping posts publication either by making it a draft or private.

Title Split Testing for WordPress

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/title-split-testing-for-wordpress/

If your headline sucks, no one will read your article. Split test titles to find out which ones attract the most readers.

Newspaper editors have known for generations that a great headline sells papers. If the headline sucks, then it doesn’t matter how good the rest of the article is, because no one will read it.
Top newspapers like The Huffington Post now apply this principle to their online publications by testing different headlines for the same story, live on their website.
However, if your not a multi-million dollar news corporation, you can’t afford to develop proprietary testing systems. That’s why we created the Title Split Testing Plugin for WordPress so that you can do the same simple tests for FREE.
It enables you to create a number of different titles for each article, and randomly display different titles to different users to find out which title achieves the highest click-thorugh rates. After a few hours of testing you can then select the best title to be shown to all visitors. It also helps you to learn what type of titles get the best reaction from your readers. Do they like short titles or long titles, funny titles or serious titles. Take the guess work out of your article titles and use this plugin to measure real user behaviour.

Marcus’ Take: This is a great and simple way to split test your titles to see which is the most compelling from a traffic and conversion standpoint.

Maintenance Checklist
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/maintenance-checklist/

Introduction

When supporting WordPress websites, a necessary evil is the tedious tasks of on-going maintenance. Tasks that fall under on-going maintenance are backups, spam & trash comment removal, database optimization, and much more.
What Maintenance Checklist provides is an easy to understand checklist for things that need to be completed on your WordPress site. These tasks will keep your WordPress website running at optimal performance.

Who can benefit from this plugin

Bloggers
With the default installation providing you a checklist of crucial tasks, you can see what needs to be done for your blog to keep it running perfectly. All you need to do is check off the task once you completed it.
Developers
With the “Add Task” feature, you can add tasks for tracking. You may have tons of sites to maintain with each site having special maintenance needs. Just add the task to that site, choose how often it needs to be done, and the Maintenance Checklist Plugin will remind you to do it.

Features

  • Track tasks and check them off when completed.
  • Automatic un-check when task needs to be completed.
  • Add custom tasks for tracking.
  • Delete any tasks.
  • The “Feel Good Engine”. When all tasks have been completed, we make you feel good
  • for all your hard work!

Marcus’ Take: great way to centralize your tasks. Would be a lot better if this could output or feed from RSS, giving you a full scope of your tasks on all sites.

WP-Retina 2X
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-retina-2x/

This plugin creates the image files required by the Retina (high-DPI) displays and it displays them to your visitors accordingly. Your website will now look beautiful and smooth on every device.

In the case the resolution of the original images are not high enough, you will see a warning in the Media Library where you will be able to re-upload bigger images.
It handles two different methods (for now) to serves the images to your visitors. Pick the one that works best with your hosting and environment.

Marcus’ Take: Really cool “developing technology” that you might want to try with your retina display devices.

The Lowdown:
This is a pretty robust access manager plugin. I was in need of such a device to allow subscribers access to one certain part of the site but it can also be used to limit access by other roles to areas of the site you do not want them to be. I did have some difficulty in configuring one site and getting to properly add a new role and limit what I wanted to limit. In the end I did get it to work but I did have to do a little work on understanding the roles and which plugins get what role when installed and and figuring out how to access some roles for limitation. While I liked this plugin I am still on the lookout for something more simple to use.

Site PIN

Prevent careless visitors by locking your site down with a PIN

Requires: 3.0 or higher

Last Updated: 2012-6-18

Author: Marcus Downing

Whenever a site is under development, or its content should remain private, you want to prevent to general public from reading it – whether deliberately or by accident.

A common way to do this is with HTTP authorization, but this has some problems and is often confusing for the viewer/client.

Site PIN solves these problems by replacing authorization with a simple PIN. This has the following advantages:

• Everybody knows what a PIN is, and it’s clearly not the same as a password.
• Logging into WordPress bypasses the PIN, so you can’t lock yourself out
• It’s just a WordPress plugin, so no server configuration is necessary.
• You can change or remove the PIN from WordPress admin.

Marcus’ Take: This is a really quick way to get your clients to see a stage site that may be in development without all the crazy setup of HTTP authorization by just using a PIN. Perfect solution for what I was looking for in a client stage site.

Twitter cards make it possible for you to attach media experiences to Tweets that link to your content. Simply add a few lines of HTML to your webpages, and users who Tweet links to your content will have a “card” added to the Tweet that’s visible to all of their followers.
As a developer, Twitter cards can…

  • Give you control of how your content is displayed with Tweets
  • Drive traffic to your site
  • Increase the number of people following your Twitter accounts through content attribution

.
Marcus’ Take:
This is a really cool plugin that lets you take advantage of twitter in a whole new way. I highly recommend this plugin for just about everyone who integrates twitter into their site’s user experience.

John’s Rant

A Ramble about what a great place Victoria is , Social Media Camp Victoria and of course Diablo3. The sad state of the top 5 or 7 or 10 plugins depending on what article you read. Seems they all have the same thing to say. Never going outside the box. Guess I will be doing my article soon of the real top five or actually 15 that I put on every site. Or even an up and coming top list of plugin failures.

WP AdCenter (Premium Plugin)
The Plugin site at WPAdcenter.com
The Authors Site http://kooc.co.uk/ where they have a few other plugins

The Lowdown:
After install head over to its menu The only setting to make is paypal address seems it does not offer the sandbox top bad. The you need to set up your zones, packages and campaigns. Then set up at least one advertiser so you can test it out. The one problem I ran into was lack of documentation until I went duh!! Check the zip folder for info and there is a link to complete online documentation on how to use it. It uses widgets to place your ad block a nice feature or get the code and place that. It is either php code or short code nice feature.
Adding the ads was pretty easy after that and so was setting up the payment page now just sit back and let the cash roll in.

Now onto a serious note for a plugin
Benchmark Email Lite 2.3
Last updated June 5th
Author: beAutomated

The Lowdown:
First you will need an account at Benchmark email http://benchmarkemail.com wwhere you get a 30 day free trial after that it costs not sure how much did not examin thier services.
I had a little trouble locating my API key at benchmark but the instructions from the plugin where pretty good only missing one line look for small link to generate your API key.
I do like the one feature I noticed in tier plug ins and that is to limit what page to show it on.
It works very nice and if you have more than one list you choose it when setting up the widget plus a couple other base settings. All in all pretty nice plugin that has a widget that conforms to your theme quite nicely.  And if you want to place elsewhere they have the code ready to go for you. And you can send any post as an email right from the posts edit area. Where you can schedule it or send now. It send a pretty nice email but I would want to edit up what it send I am sure that can be done somewhere.

And finally one for WP e-commerce since I have recently completed that site I thought I would start sharing the plugins used
WPEC Personalize

The Lowdown:
Ok this plugin is pretty simple in essence of course you need wp e-commerce installed before you can use this. Ok here is the deal in wpec you can set a spot for your clients to personalize the product but it is simple one big text box. what this plugin does is allow you to create single line or text box and even double up on them and to determine which products they go to. This is great like this store which is an embroidery shop and sells things like name badges and sometimes it is one name other times it is multiple names. All in all pretty good.

wpTextResizeControls is an easy to use template tag to generate Increase, Decrease, reset font size controls for body text on a WordPress site. Just add wpTextResizeControls(0) to your template for the controls to be automatically styled, or wpTextResizeControls(1) to manually style. When manually styling, wpTextResizeControls is the container, and increaseFont, resetFont, and decreaseFont are all anchors you can target.

Marcus’ Take: This was a real easy plugin to use when trying to redesign an old client site that only needed tweaks with the typestyles. Rather than mess with the entire CSS and stylesheet structure, I opted to use this plugin instead. It took a few minutes to clear the cache and make sure the plgin qas working, but it did it’s job well and works just as promised.

This plugin add a new metabox in posts, pages and custom post type. In this metabox you can insert name of users (comma-separed) enabled to view it. If a post haven’t users enabled and it has a parent, it is enabled for users for parent posts and pages.

Marcus’ Take: This was the perfect solution for an intranet site I was working with that was limited on the specific user TYPES that I would use to read a post. This let me break it down into individual teams instead. This let me call out individual people to see a particular post. Quite a nifty advancement.

Re-Review
Cardoza WordPress Poll 1.0

The Lowdown:
Ok this one is a re-review mainly because I am a fair person and if called on the carpet I will answer for my actions. Seems I may have missed a thing or two here and the author Vinoj Cardoza called me out on it and also updated the plugin a few days ago and notified my about changes so here is the retake.

First the new icon is great it makes a bit more sense in the context of the menu than the previous one (see last review for info on that.) Installation still easy, creating poll also easy I do like the poll start and end date creation, would be nice if it had an auto chooser for date. Displaying it is pretty easy seems I missed the short codes in my previous review you can display a single post on a page or the archive of all posts aside from just a widget in sidebar.
Id does still seem to be limiting to what I was looking for and that was a way to control who can vote and how often. This one allow you to let anyone vote or logged in users vote aside from that I could not find any other controls.
So in final rating I give this a 3 but move it to a 4 because of the icon change

Worpit WordPress Admin Dashboard Plugin trunk

The Lowdown:
According to author it is still underdevelopment and has nothing to install yet they allow a download so i thought i would check it out seems all you can do is download the pre-plugin.  But I like the premise and will keep the mention here. It is to be a centralized area for managing your WordPress websites all in one spot. I am interested to see how it does this task. Will respond on it after they go live.

WP Changes Tracker 1.0.0

The Lowdown:
I like what this plugin is offering that is a way to track changes you make to your plugins. You just install activate and it track what you do. Once activated it make note of your system and where it is at. Very simple and lazy just they way we like it. I activated and deactivated and updated a couple plugins on my test site and it was able to tell me everything I had done this is pretty nice.

Anything Popup 1.0

The Lowdown:
I know many folk from time to time need an unblockable popup window, a way to present important info on your site or to simply be annoying and make sure your ad gets showed. I know I have been looking for a decent one for a while and have checked out many in the past. Installation is like most every plugin out there.

It uses a WSYWYG editor for popup creation you can also set the popup colour options at this point.  and has a list of popups created that you can manage later for edit changes ect.. You can then drop a short code into a posts for an individual popup that produces a link that when clicked it popups for folks to view this is a very nice feature. Then there is the widget  where you place the short code and it does the same thing. I am truly liking this plugin with one major exception, I am looking for one that auto loads when folks visit the site this one does not do that out of the box but may be modifiable to that end. Otherwise this is a pretty nice plugin.

DOB Shortcoder allows you to create any shortcode and easily modify it’s content. No coding skills needed.

This plugin allow you to create any number of shortcodes, easily edit content and use it in posts and pages. You can even use one shortcode inside another shortcode that allows you to build complex content systems. For advanced users: In single editor you can also put shortcode content in div element and add class and additional styling to this element. That will help you to make code look better within your design.

Marcus’ Take: I’ve been waiting for a plugin like this for a long long time. Something that lets me nest my own content within a shortcode, while also letting me embed a shortcode within a shortcode! I am continuing to test this plugin on a live client site and trying the shortcodes of other plugins in combo with what I can create with this DOB plugin. So far so good!

This plugin lets you easily add a dynamically generated sitemap page to your WordPress blog or website.
SiteTree lets you add a customizable sitemap page directly from your administration area. No shortcode or coding knowledge needed.

Features

  • Selectively choose what to show.
  • Exclude specific pages or whole subpages levels.
  • Show meta informations.
  • Sort posts by title, most recent or most popular.
  • Group posts by category or date.

… and a few more: title tag control, trailing html, custom css code.

Marcus’ Take: I used this for a client site that we wanted to selectively prune what was shown in the default sitemap pages (like ones seen in a 404 error page). The issue was that we did not want certain things like tags, authors and categories to appear to potential clients, rather keeping it to only the main “sell” pages. This plugin did the trick with a bit of setup.

Calculations occur instantaneously upon each updated entry – so checking a few dozen different potential scenarios is a snap.

Marcus’ Take: This is an outstanding plugin for anyone that has or designs real estate sites in wordpress. It’s important that you have tools like this on site to keep your site viewers from leaving to find this type of tool somewhere else. Great functionality in a few different themes that I’ve tried and the calculations are instant.

Pretty easy install and set up, you need to visit the google web font directory to find the font you crave. This plugin provide 6 choices for fonts meaning you can change up to 6 fonts for your site. I found this plugin to do very nicely for a dental center site that I help develop. If you have you been looking for an easy way to create a pressroom on your website. You know a spot where you can combine together articles, images, videos and downloadables in one section of your site.
This plugin would seem to be a solution to this issue and it does do a pretty nice job of it. You can provide your recent & past press releases in one easy to find area. Combined with any videos and images you might be distributing and you can create a complete press area in one location for your visitor or the press.
This plugin is worth the $49 is easily installed and configured up the only thing that will take time is working the css to match your site. You can use their built in theme for the plugin but that is pretty bland and you would be better off to properly incorporate it into your site.

This plugin has been in the cue for me to check out for sometime now. I am glad i have finally checked it out as I can now delete it from my list of plugins to use. while it is pretty easy to use as a download monitor it is dependant on having an htaccess file for the directory you create. Here is the example where you want to schedule your content daily within 9am to 10am.
[scheduler start_date=” start_time=’09:00′ end_date=” end_time=’10:00′] This is scheduled Content. [/scheduler]

Marcus’ Take: I’ve been looking for a plugin that has this functionality for months. This would enable you to turn a “live help” or “Call Now” sidebar callout, or even change the content within the page or post based on what you want people to see during a specific time of the day.

Domain Mapping System
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/domain-mapping-system/

Domain Mapping System allows to map domains to WP pages.

Imagine you’ve got a company website based on wordpress with the domain http://www.mycompany.com, all good so far. Furthermore, you’ve got two products with own domains, e.g. http://www.myregularproduct.com and http://www.myspecialproduct.com.

Let’s assume your product pages are micro-sites. One way to handle this, is by using WordPress Networks.

One important note from WordPress is: If you plan on creating sites that are strongly interconnected, that share data, or share users, then this multisite network might not be the best solution. With DMS you may point all multiple domains to the same Apache vhost where you’re wordpress instance is running on. You then create a WordPress Page (My Regular Product), perhaps with a custom template. In the DMS options you can now configure the domain http://www.myregularproduct.com to your WordPress page My Regular Product.
As easy as pie!

Marcus’ Take: While my testing of this was rather limited, I’m really impressed with how this works as a plugin. It did work as expected and ran 3 different domain mini-sites in the same wordpress installation.

MDR Webmaster Tools

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mdr-webmaster-tools/

Provides Webmaster site verification scripts for Google, Yahoo, & Bing. Plugin also provides Google Analytics Tracking Script and sitemap support.

MDR Webmaster Tools provides many small necessary functions to WordPress when for managing your site with Google, Yahoo, & Bing’s webmaster tools sites.

The plugin adds the following functions:

  • Dynamic Sitemap
  • Ability to modify your robots.txt file.
  • Site verification scripts for Google, Yahoo, & Bing.
  • Google Analytics Tracking Script for registered sites.

This plugin will create a sitemap for your WordPress site (http://example.com/sitemap.xml). No files are stored on your disk, the sitemap.xml file is generate as needed, like your feeds. No UI to speak of, just drop in place and your good to go.

Marcus’ Take: Setting up and uploading verification files with Google, Yahoo and Bing are an essential step that every one of us have to do when we start a new site. This plugin is the lazy way to get it all done with one click. Just one more thing you can get done easily and include the task in your list of provided services when billing your client or creating a design proposal.

Cardoza Worpress Poll 0.8

The LowDown:
Marked way down due to his ego of creating the icon for the menu bar to be his picture.
pretty straightforward in its setup, only places polls on the sidebar in a widget controlled by the pluginsettings. Seems pretty nice for simple polls nothing special here as it looks like it can be gamed since there is no way to lock it down aside from only allowing logged uses to vote. It does give some nice stats on the polls created. It as a couple of options that are not clearly explained but you can customize the widget displaying the poll for colour. All in all ok 1 point down for ego

Stand by for updateDiablo 3 Tooltip 1.0

The Lowdown:
Ok in honor of the impending launch of Diablo 3 I had to try this out and especially it is so brand new I was #7 to download it I just had to.
It is simple enough all you do is activate it and then wrap the proper text from the Diablo website such as [d3]Apprentice Light Crossbow[/d3] for the Demon Hunter then it will pop up the necessary info about that item in your site as a popup window it pretty nice except it is supposed to place a quick entry button in the editor but did not on my test site. So in honor of the fiery rains from hell stopping and starting your campaign in Diablo 3 give this one a try.

With this plugin you can filter post or page content by the country (web api) of the user surfing the site, all of that using simple shortcode.

To show content by country just use the shortcode like this:

[cbl country=”country code”]
your content
[/cbl]

Subscribe To Comments Reloaded 2.0.2

The Lowdown:
It has some nice features for managing the comments you can customize the subscription choices and default it to subscribe when they leave a comment. Your users get an opportunity to manage their subscriptions and event turn them off when they have had enough of a particular thread. There is a double opt in for the subscriptions so that they can not be spammed. There is a purge of the requests if they have not been acted on. if you have multiple authors you can have them be auto subscribed. And they can subscribe without commenting. Plus you can manage the subscription list.

You can give them a time limit for how long they have to make their edits before comment becomes permanent. You can limit certain types of edits such as name, email and url. You can allow registered users an unlimited amount of time to edit comments. You can stop edits if additional comments are added to thread this prevent take backs. It provides a spell checker to make life a little easier. You can customize look and feel. All in all pretty nice way of allowing visitors to leave the best comments they can.

Change Permalink Helper 0.1

The Lowdown:
This is pretty straightforward just turn on and go, seems to work fine. Of course the reason for needing this is when you upgrade a WordPress website and make a change to the permalinks like I did recently for a client. What had happened was he had been using a permalink of year/month/day/slug and I changed it to post type. It broke many of his internal links in his posts. This plugin fixed that by redirecting properly to the new permalink.

Multiple featured images

This plugin allows you to add additional featured images to a post or page.

Features

  1. Add as many featured images as you need
  2. Fully customizable output – so it’s multilingual

From the Author:
For one of my customers I had to assign two featured images to pages. One featured image was used as the header image and the other as a small button for the submenu. The images had to be different too (so I couldn’t simply use different images sizes) and so I wrote this little plugin.

Author: Marcus Kober

Marcus’ Take: I had a strange need for this while doing work for a new client. They had a directory site that needed the features in both the main home page and on the category page. This plugin did the trick with a little handle jiggling.

Display lifestream of events from different social sites, news feeds or any RSS feed. Default sites include: Twitter, Delicious, YouTube and Digg. For other sites, get the RSS and add that using this plugin. For more details, visit http://nischalmaniar.com/social-timeline

Marcus’ Take: I’ve not fully implemented this plugin yet, but plan to on my main marcuscouch.com site. With my personal site I’ve chosen to make it a stage for all the different social streams that I regularly engage in. Right now I’m using the Tapestry Genesis child theme, but might change up if I can get this plugin to work like I want it. It does everything I want it to do, pulling in all of my latest blurbs, photos, status and video from the various locations.

Requires: 2.2.0 or higher

Removes the default WordPress widgets. Period. Seriously, this plugin doesn’t do anything else. It just prevents WordPress from registering its default widgets. Upload the plugin to your blog, and activate it. Browse to Appearance – Widgets to make sure it’s working.

Marcus’ Take: Sometimes a lazy plugin is just something that gives you a clean slate to work with. This is one of those plugins. Often we get tired of the “stock” widgets and want to work with an empty palate. This is a one click solution for eliminating your off-the-rack widgets.

Genesis Widgetized Footer

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/genesis-widgetized-footer/
Use widgets to edit the Footer area (‘Return to Top’ plus ‘Copyright/Credits’) in Genesis Framework and Child Themes.

New Flexibility plus Enhanced Webmaster Experience

Changing the footer ‘Copyright/Credits’ & ‘Return to Top’ in Genesis is already easy with the use of Genesis Footer Shortcodes or some other plugins. However, it COULD still be much easier and more flexible with Widgets in WordPress! This plugin just achieves that, and at the same time keeping full Genesis Shortcodes support for the footer section! Yes, it’s that cool! 😉
You can use up to two widgets! Place one – full-width then – or two (one third/two thirds then) and get back the flexibility you’ve wanted for this area! Manage your copyright/credits stuff the way YOU want it, without messing up your ‘functions.php’ file… Just place in a text widget with copyright stuff, another one with logos and/or affiliate links, an additional search widget, widget, some explanation via text widget… You got it. The possibilities are endless. Finally.
A great helper tool for Genesis Child Themes!

Marcus’ Take: I’ve recently gotten back into the Genesis based theme framework and found that the customization is still in need of a few tweaks no matter what I do. This plugin took care of the customization of the footer in just a few clicks after install. If you use Genesis, I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to install and use this handy widget area plugin.
