What to Expect in WordPress 4.2: Theme Switching and Emoji Everywhere

What to Expect in WordPress 4.2: Theme Switching and Emoji Everywherehttp://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/wordpress-4-2/?utm_expid=3606929-28.V9Bw_8diSVaOFQtRZ6k9ZA.0A great update to the theme customizer is the ability to switch themes and make customizations without affecting the live site. This is a huge leap forward, allowing users to not just preview but modify the design of an inactive theme without resorting to plugins. If you’re interested, the chatter about this feature was added to ticket #31303.

To be honest, the Emoji craze has completely gone over my head but lots of people use them and it now seems to be a ubiquitous way of communicating, which means that it should be implemented in WordPress as well.

It seems that updating will still be included in 4.2 and can be tested easily. In fact, it’s pretty awesome. If all other features discussed work as smoothly as this feature, we’ll have a much better user experience dealing with plugins.

Developers can now add non-sticky admin notices, ones which users can dismiss. All you need to do is add .notice and .is-dismissable as classes to your notice containers and they should automagically become dismissable. Read original article here…

Why You Can't Afford Not to Attend a WordCamp

Why You Can’t Afford Not to Attend a WordCamphttp://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/wordcamps/WordCamps are aimed at everyone and anyone who uses WordPress. You don’t have to be an experienced developer to benefit from a WordCamp – there are sessions for users, too, as well as for designers and people more interested in the business of WordPress.

Most WordCamps have more than one track of talks aimed at different audiences or skill levels, so you might find a user track in one room at the same time as a developer track in another. This means that there’s a huge range of topics being covered by the talks and a wide range of levels they’re pitched at.

Aside from all the things you’ll learn at a WordCamp, you’ll hear about new trends in web development and ideas for taking WordPress further. You’ll meet people working with WordPress in as way you haven’t thought of but would love to try. And you’ll learn about career opportunities with WordPress that you might not even have known existed. Read original article here…

Pirated Joomla, WordPress, Drupal themes and plugins contain CryptoPHP backdoorhttp://www.scmagazine.com/pirated-joomla-wordpress-drupal-themes-and-plugins-contain-cryptophp-backdoor/article/385552/Illegal search engine optimization (SEO) is the goal of attackers who are freely distributing pirated Joomla, WordPress and Drupal themes and plugins that are packaged with a backdoor being referred to as CryptoPHP.

Last week Fox-It released a whitepaper on CryptoPHP, and in a Wednesday post the security company revealed that most of the command-and-control domains had been sinkholed or taken down.

Researchers observed 23,693 unique IP addresses connecting to the sinkholes, but by Monday that number had dipped to 16,786, according to the post.

How to Add Background Videos to Make WordPress Posts More Appealing?

How to Add Background Videos to Make WordPress Posts More Appealing?http://www.business2community.com/tech-gadgets/add-background-videos-make-wordpress-posts-appealing-01028394Videos dramatically increase the value of WordPress posts. They are not only eye-catching, but also attention-grabbing. With the help of a video, a viewer can understand your post far more clearly and quickly, than he would have, if there were only words to read.

However, it is quite difficult to add videos in the background of your WordPress posts. The job involves several format, browser and theme problems, which can annoy even the proficient developers. Though CSS works in case of background images, it does not provide any solution when it comes to creating fullscreen background videos. The job is not as simple as opening the CSS, putting the MP4 video URL inside the background clause and setting the size such that the video covers the full screen.

Firstly, download, install and activate the Background Video plugin. The plugin has a self-contained bgvideo shortcode. When you add this shortcode to the content of a post, a background video is generated. The attributes taken by the shortcode are:

CMS plugins are leaving the security door wide open

White hat hacker warns CMS plugins are leaving the security door wide open

White hat hacker warns CMS plugins are leaving the security door wide openhttp://xxxxswww.daniweb.com/web-development/news/485743/white-hat-hacker-warns-cms-plugins-are-leaving-the-security-door-wide-openReading between the lines, the truth of the matter is that the vast majority of holes in the CMS code base, whichever platform you look at, have been found and fixed over the years. Kolochenko actually reckons that 99% of exploitable vulnerabilities in core CMS code fall into this category. So, CMS usage is pretty safe now then? Well, yes, but not 100% so and admins are partly to blame here. Weak passwords and password reuse are right up there at the top of the insecurity tree, along with social engineering attacks against CMS administrators. The compromise crown has to be placed upon the head of XSS vulnerabilities in plugins, made effective because of both the previous weaknesses.
